I can agree with both sides on the Twitter being useful.

If used correctly, Twitter and social media can be both a great stress release and get you a career. It's why there's so many "social media manager" positions for a LOT of businesses and also for high schoolers wanting to get that school scholarship etc.

But it is ALSO a cesspool and if everyone left it, we would all adapt again like before we had it.

The best thing to do is to block people who are ignorant or pushing disinformation. It's made Twitter much easier to be on.

So I can easily see @THE HCP s side and the benefits but totally see @riverman side too. There's a happy little medium there for both.

It is for me. I see the advantages of technology. I also see the degradation of social interaction, the increase in selfishness, and the disappearance of consequences for one's actions.

The more time one spends interacting with a device, the less time they spend interacting with the physical universe. (Yes, I understand that in quantum physics, there is no physical universe...we'll call it the energy field universe).

The problem is, the brain may be stimulated....but the body interacting with the brain areas that develop speech recognition, facial awareness, and other such important aspects of human communication, are actually degrading as a whole in our society. I work in retail and the amount of folks who walk in my store and cannot even communicate at a basic level or be a functioning member of society, is astounding. Sadly, that person is likely quite adept and feels quite comfy communicating on the net and in social media. It saddens me.

I also think it is very different for those who grew up without it at first, and brought it into their life later on.....than it is for those who's parents stuck a phone or laptop in their hands while they were they were still developing socially. Here is the sad part of all this.....in the very near future (another 20 years or so?)....the only place a young person will be able to discover what life was like before cell phones and rampant social media, will be through their phone or social media.

In the end, I am not finger pointing at those who live their life through social media....but I absolutely wear the fact that I have never been on Twitter/Instagram as a badge of honor.

Twitter is as much of a cesspool as you choose to make it. Follow who you want and ignore the rest. If you leave yourself open to anything that offends you, that's on you.

I read a thread started by you, with the title 'Nurk deleted his twitter', talk in your only post of the thread about how he needs to be off the team leaving the reader to assume this is the reason you want him gone, giving no other explanation for why he should be traded/cut but I'm the one that needs to get my eyes checked? I really love this place and the rational, thought provoking discussions we can have, and then there is this kind of thread.

At 72 never been on face book, twitter or IG. I spend much time on this site and sometimes to much, can't imagine more time on others.
I still call my kids and grandkids but I also text them too. I admit short lines of communication with tex is a nice creature comfort.

My daughter in law has 15K pics on her I phone. I fell out of my chair when she told me that.

Twitter is more than just me logging onto it.

I've been "on it" since 2007, but I rarely visit the site or the app, and I even less likely post.

BUT... it gets cited as an indicator of public opinion in other channels. It turns into a circle jerk for crazy people. It draws in people to become radicalized and hate people who aren't in agreement with them over 140 characters, or because they liked or retweeted the wrong thing. Politicians use it to influence policy and rally their base, their opponents, and the public... in a stupid format that was intended for SMS technology.

It's not just that if I don't care about Twitter it won't affect me or my life, let alone that if I just follow SOME users, it'll be just fine.

It's a malignant force in culture and in our lives and it is unique on social media due to its format and its long-time intention of being a broadcast platform, rather than a personal stage for acquaintances to stay up to date.

    So. Yeah. Cesspool.

If Twitter didn't exist, I bet there would have been some other way for her to get that money. It's awesome she got it, of course, either way! :)

No way bro. I’m a photographer. I can get on IG and admire other photography from all over the world. How can that be a bad thing?

From what I'm reading, we should delete Nurk and start Twitter at center.

You kind of have to monitor it constantly and use that block button. It can keep you informed on a bunch of things if you are willing to use a second and third reference for actual information.
