"With a revamped cast entering the 2022-23 season, the Trail Blazers had high hopes of making a deep postseason run."

    Did they tho??

I don't think anyone had those thoughts, otherwise they should be fired.

Joe said he knew the roster was incomplete but wanted to see different combinations of different guys playing together to get a sense of what moves to make at this trade deadline and in the off-season... I think he added this off-season because he didn't want rival execs to think his back is up against the wall right now and knowing our ownership it probably isn't. So yeah, I think the speculative part of that article is what you pointed out but the substantive part is that everyone is on the table right now, which I think is good news.

Joe better have a plan because from top to bottom our roster is worse than when we started the year last year. With just as little flexibility.

This board seems to believe two claims that are hard to reconcile.
    1. What you said
    2. Jerami Grant is the best forward we've had basically since Aldridge

I said at the time we acquired him that I liked bring him on board. But that if that’s are splashy acquisition of the offseason we’re in trouble.

    And here we are..

I keep hearing that Hart is a "Heat kind of guy"... What would a "Blazers kind of guy" entail? Chuckers under 6'6"? White American born centers that went to Syracuse?

I said it elsewhere, but in regards to Hart, if you don't think we're going anywhere, and you're weary of what he might want to sign for in the offseason, he is absolutely a guy we should be looking to trade at the deadline. Someone slightly younger with a longer deal? Or assets we could move in the offseason for an upgrade, perhaps.

Hart lives in MIA in the offseason too if I recall. A hard nosed rebounder who can defend and competes like hell. He should be a hot commodity. If we built our roster better, we would/should retain him.

I don't see much on MIA that fits that that mold that they'd want to give up. Picks then I guess and another trade exception? I'm not as hip to the CBA as everyone here, but what would make sense in a deal with the Heat that both sides would agree to?

I have no doubt Josh Hart is a "hot commodity" right now. There's good reason for it

irony is Hart was NOT a hot commodity a year ago....or 2 or 3 years ago for that matter. What has made him such a hot commodity is how he has transformed his game. This year. He's not a one-dimensional player

he's averaging 10 points, 8 rebounds, & 4 assists, while posting an incredibly low 12.5% usage rate. He pushes the ball in transition and is one of the primary ball-handlers in half-court, yet he has an excellent 2.6 assist/turnover ratio for a non-PG. He's shown he's willing to defer his own offense for the sake of the team. He's unselfish but never takes plays off, on either end of the floor. He hustles constantly, is a good & versatile defender, and carries a very high FT rate for a low-usage wing. He gets to the line

he's a high-energy, all-out-hustle glue guy. He has good positive value and would fit well on just about every team in the NBA. And the Blazers would be very fucking stupid to sell all that cheaply because of worry about his contract. This season he's been as valuable, on the floor, as Simons

would have to be a three teamer.

oladipo would be nice, but he's pretty much like hart only cheaper (for this season) and more injury prone. lot of duplication with him and payton too. we need bigs or tall wings. dedmon is an option but he sucks; not sure he's better than eubanks.

I don't want to lose Hart but also don't want to pay him a ton. Plus this season seems to be going nowhere unless we package him with another player and try to make a splash. I would consider that deal for those two players and a 1st rounder.

But nobody is saying anything about selling him cheaply, so I don't know why you'd lob that in there? I don't think anyone would suggest that. But you have to ask, are we a title contender this season? What is our realistic ceiling? What might his demand be in the offseason? Does he want to be here? Who else might go after him in the offseason? Do we miss out on, say, a play in effort, and gain assets we could hopefully use in the offseason, or do we scratch for the playoffs, and risk losing him for nothing?

A third team and draft considerations are the only things when I look at the Heat's players that would match Hart's contract, that could make a Hart to the Heat trade sensible.

I wouldn't be so sure. They are looking at trying to make a run. But if they aren't going to do it then they aren't getting Hart.
