Firing Chauncey is silly. The roster he's putting on the court has 1 superstar, a couple of good players in Ant & Jerami, and a band of youth and an underachieving center in Nurk. I still am hopeful that not only do the Blazers land an awesome talent in the draft, but are also able to acquire some team changing talent through a trade and FA. Changing the coach makes zero sense right now.

I was just formulating a post whose overarching theme was set to be that we as a species are nuts and then you cherry picked this...and that somehow encapsulates it all. People, humans, fans, citizens, we, are strange creatures. Let's talk about what you said though.

Regardless of which pick he was (see dozens of players), Jabari showed promise in the Summer League and in the playing time he has gotten in the regular season. But there will be no consistency for him, if you haven't noticed. Any development will be hidden behind closed doors, I suppose...until next Summer League.

Shaedon is great, but what's changed as the season's progressed? Little to nothing. Same player, good player but needs direction, needs development.

Little is the same Little from the end of last season or a bit worse. Remember he was vying for the starting 3 spot? Now that seem kind of silly--him starting at the 3--and we are terrible.

    In other words, what development?

Things can happen simultaneously; we can upgrade the roster and hire an actual coach. 1 on your list could be talent and 2 and 3 could be coach or anything. Hell, we could add 4 and it wouldn't matter because 1 is already the roster.

From many angles, Billups looks to be in way over his head. This team has zero identity past being a Dame team, unless you focus on the negative, and in that case we are a sometimes high-scoring team that is completely incapable of playing defense for some reason. Just look at what happens when Dame sits. Billups has developed shit. There's no system he's implemented that hasn't been cracked and exploited by every other team in the league.

And it's easy peasy. Just make priority number 2 a search for a real coach. I mean, answer me this: what is it about Chauncey that makes him valuable and moves us forward? We've already established Chauncey isn't developing players well. Is it because the players like him? Because the players liked Caleb Canales. So it needs to be more than that. Why do we care about Billups so much?

Maybe the answer lies in why people supported Olshey for so long.

Great. We've got guys ready to run through a wall for Billups.
Let's beat out heads against it for another few more years then see how we feel.

Guys running through walls will be on the unjured list ...makes total sense.. I see that Chauncey is popular with his players. He'll probably get to stick around especially if Dame wants him here. If that's the case can we get a defensive coordinator who can make players better on that side of the ball?

I agree. I was in Billups team because I thought we will be his Pistons or Gasol's Grizzlies. Grinding. But this team is a flat tire. Maybe he is not ready. Now, when I think, his main training for his job was talking with a friend over the summer... Well...
Udoka is there to take. I know you don't like it, but he deserves a chance.

You think Udoinka is some tactical mind? Surely it wasn't the talent.. I'd hire him.. as an assistant. There's a reason the Grizz always Grind. They value grindy defensive players. Unlike the Blazers offensive focus. Big Shots championship squad was Elite defensively.

Let me just say I never expected Mike Brown to coach the Kings to a championship contender but here we are

I think he should be fired mainly because I feel a youth movement is our best scenario should go with a youth movement. So I think a more develop oriented coach like a d league type would be best suited for the next couple years

Funny you say that—I feel like Chauncey would be the type of coach you want if you don’t care if you’re losing. You want him as the mentorship/players-first guy with lots of young guys.

Because he’s not the coach you want if you’re trying to make the playoffs, make all sorts of adjustments or out-scheme the other coach. One need only look at his 4th quarter results this season for a sneak peek of that experience—injuries or no.

I dunno. I’m still super confused on the direction of the team to have a strong opinion on what kind of coach we should hire.

2022-2024 seems like it’s about development. 2024-25 seems like it’s about winning. I guess the idea is that maybe Chauncey is ready to coach by then?

That is one of many things I don't get. After Billups came in, I understood Blazers are going to focus on defense more. And then this "we need to trade Hart, he's hurting the team by not shooting 3s" happened.
I don't work in basketball and I am sure Cronin and rest of Blazers stuff know more about it, but it will be hard for me to forgive them Hart.
I simply don't know wtf they are doing, but it seems, that Billups don't have much idea neither.

All these players running through walls certainly explains our injury woes

There sure are a whole bunch of talkers saying they know basketball better. A bunch of them are the same ones that said Stotts couldn't coach.

We're gonna finish this season worse than teams like OKC without Chet, Utah, and Minny without KAT. If Cronin won't even evaluate him, then Joe needs to go too. Gross negligence to let Chauncey run wild without any checks and balances. Even the most menial jobs involve performance reviews.

Of course the players will stick up for him. He's great at building connections and dapping up everyone during games. What matters more is he can actually coach us to wins. That remains to be seen.

Coaching needs to be upgraded, either via a new head-coach or better assistants around a green head-coach. That's pretty much my opinion - if Chauncy is good enough to be a head coach in the NBA - I have no idea. At the very least we know he is popular with his players, so that's something.

NO, there is NO better tank commander than Chauncy! One or two days after the last game then fire him
