The non-injury floor for Wemby is pretty incredible if you think about it. He can just stand in the corner and shoot open 3s no one can actually contest.

How is this dude at defense though? Because god our team doesn't need another sieve on defense.

Better drb%, blk% and drtg than Gobert in the same league at a younger age. Shown the mobility on D and skill on offense to play alongside another big at times if you really want to juice the defense.

Strength and maybe feel/reaction time aren't ideal but his length helps cover for a lot.

Man, when you are that tall & slender at 19, I wonder if the leverage on his joints can endure?
Use a short wrench and you have so much torque, use a really long one and the torque increases significantly with the same force.

Being a sieve on defense is not necessarily a bad thing. A player could be like a #200 sieve and be an excellent defender. Unfortunately our guards are closer to #4 sieves.

That begs the question, were Gobert's defensive numbers considered good for the league at the time? Because he wasn't considered much more than a project coming into the draft.

His body type... who else would you describe as having his body type? There are very few players ever who were even close to his size, but Kareem and Wilt spring to mind as long/tall guys who enjoyed long careers with relatively few injuries.

really? If you're a Doc, I'm all ears as to your opinion. Even better if you saw the play that caused the injury or were you privy to the X-Rays, that would be something. If you're just a shmoe (like me) I'll wait for people who have an actual clue what constitutes a serious concern to weigh in as I don't place any value on health speculations from random posters.

Just an old shmoe that has an opinion as to what might be cause for concern...Hope he has a long career and ends up breaking LeBron's scoring record.....

Orlando will beat Washington and be only 1 win (30) below the Trail Blazers.

I hope, if he's a Blazer, he breaks Bill Russells record for titles.

Bradley and Bol are probably the best comparisons with long careers. Maybe Yao? Although Yao had a much broader base. Bol Bol? Of young players, Chet is probably the closest.

Jabar and Wilt were shorter and both much more muscular. Wilt was in Conan with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jabar kicked Bruce Lee's ass. Let me know when Wemba does that.

You're comparing KAJ as a 30 year old (when he was in the movie with Bruce Lee).

I was looking at the past drafts, and getting depressed at how unlikely it is that the #1 pick will fall to Portland. :/

Ralph Sampson seems the closest match to body type & style for VW. He only missed 3 games over his first 3 seasons. After that all he had was injury plagued seasons, only playing 61 games over his final 3 seasons before retiring at 31

the other guys mentioned here as comps, like Bradley, Illgauskas, etc. may have been long and lanky but they weren't twig-legs like VW. Maybe it's good that he's so light, but it sure wasn't good so far for Holmgren

ORL gets the win against the Wiz last night and is now only 1 win in front of Portland for the #5 Lottery spot. The Blazers eeking out that road win against the Magic could come back to haunt them. The Magic only have a couple of projected 'winnable' games left. It will still be tough for Portland to catch them.

    • #5: 10.5% chance of #1.....42.1% chance of Top-4
    • #6: 9% chance of #1.....37.2% chance of Top 4
