I am going to keep this very simple and honest and IF you do not like it that is tough -- facts are the facts Roy is a class act he gave his all for the Blazers and if not for suspect knee(s) he would have had a longer career maybe even borderline HoF one too. He is the perfect player to rep the Blazers at the draft and if I am being honest he was my pick since did not think Dame would be doing it but never thought it would happen. My guess who I thought would be the rep was either Billups or Sharpe . Now to the fans who think this is a mistake or a curse or whatever your being silly and no matter what happens the team is letting the best guy rep the team and again -- FACT
maybe brandon roy is simply disappointed that his career was destroyed by injuries, especially considering how good he was and unfortunately, not everyone can accept bad things that have happened to us, some people just cant let it go and move forward and its quite possible that portland trail blazers are a bad memory for him (not that franchise or fans were guilty for anything), perhaps its just difficult for him to come back, watch games, get connected with the organization im pretty sure he could get some time on tv if he wanted, but hes disconnected from the nba as a whole, so hes living his life and he is/was a bball coach
this entire debate is kind of a tempest-in-a-teapot. I don't get the passion about this, one way or the other he was a great Blazer player, for a very short time. Once he was no longer a Blazer, he didn't hang around Portland or shot the team or the city any love. That happens. Most former Blazers go down that path. I do think it's telling that we have heard Aldridge praising the team more than Roy ever has. But that's no big deal so why has Roy been chosen to rep the Blazers at the lottery? Is it just the rabbit's foot factor? That's probably as deep as it goes. But, we have seen over the years, that Paul Allen, Jody Allen, and the Vulcans all seem to have some obsessive attraction to anybody with Seattle connections. Whether it's Bob Whitsitt or Nate McMillan or Kevin Collabro, if somebody is from Seattle they will be heavily favored in the Blazer F.O. and the Vulcan mothership. Brandon Roy is 100% Seattle
I recently had a cathartic moment irt an old job I had, so I can kinda relate. There comes a point where it weighs down enough on you that you build up a lot of resentment and anger. And then you realize it's not worth it. Could be something like that for Brandon.
Legit question -- all the people who think this is a bad idea 2 part question 1st -- I do not understand the dislike for this selection so am I missing something cause to my knowledge Roy has not done anything bad against the Blazers. 2nd --- IF not Roy then WHO cause if Dame is not doing it name someone better / fitting ? Also nothing I said is really wrong maybe not facts but pretty damn close and I have done the whole facts things a couple times outside of this and should be more careful in using that so point taken.
who cares if he played less games than…anyone? He pulled the franchise out of irrelevancy. Yeah really seems like he hates the organization considering he’s going to the draft lottery to represent the city and organization you claim he “hates”.
Feel free to attack someone's views about B-Roy, but let's not let that spill over into attacking poster's core identities, 'kay?
My guess is the reason BRoy was not around after he retired was that Paul Allen was pissed and held a grudge when he lost out on the "retirement clause". So no the "Seattle thing" is not relevant in this case. If Paul felt betrayed or "used" by anyone close to him, that person fell out of favor for good. (I have heard this from former friends of his who traveled the world with Paul) If this was the case with Roy, of course he would not feel welcome in Portland. It is time to set aside the petty bullshit that happened with Minnesota and make him feel welcome. Life is too short to hold on to these stupid feelings. It's not like he became a Laker and led them to a championship. (No coming back from that) He played 5 games for the Twolves. Yes, it hurt the Blazers, but people need to get over it.
Just gotta say, the Brandon Roy hate makes us look pretty fucking provincial. Maybe that "soccer mom" concept fits after all. Jesus.
In my book, Lillard is the best Blazer ever. Drexler is a close second. Roy is somewhere down the list after guys like Walton, Lucas, and Porter. Now, if the Blazers end up winning the Wembanyama Lottery, I'm moving Roy up a couple of spots on that 'Best Blazer Ever' list.
So many sensitive people on this subject. It’s funny to me how so many people love Roy, but dislike Aldridge
