So they lost USC/UCLA which is going to lose tons of revenue...

lost a ton of money relocating pac12 HQ - how worthless is that office? Just setup a call center in India...

Somehow they got overpaid previously and now have to give some back, what a mess...

ESPN is not interested in a new contract, regional sports networks are going bankrupt, no LA schools, might be a very pathetic new TV deal

It's crazy that WSU shut down recruiting trips.

Get your shit together PAC12. Do something new and daring. You have a ton of great content. Innovate or die.

kind of ironic that it has been the OSU and WSU presidents that to this point have been the most prominent in saying the Pac-12 would be fine. Canzano has basically been a scribe for leaks from OSU

I suspect that WSU is reacting to the possibility, maybe probability, that the Pac-12 will fold because of near-future defections. Could be teams to the Big-12; might be UofO/UofW to Big-10. Whatever the motivation, the media spigot for money for the Pac-12 ends in less than a year

OSU/WSU might not have a conference home option better than the Mountain West. They might go from 30-40M year in TV money in the Pac-12 to 5M/year in the Mountain West. It's pretty unlikely that the Big-12 would extend invitations even if Ducks/Huskies joined the Big-12

The Cougs produced Klay Thompson (among others) as well

Cal, Stanford, UW, Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado all have much bigger TV markets and are all going to be hotter commodities in media rights deals than U of Oregon.

Yes it's probably even far bleaker for WSU OSU. But don't think just because Phil's given U of O money and uniforms that the networks, and thus conferences, will want to shell out for the tiny Oregon TV market. Only thing they care about is TV market size, thus see UCLA in the Big 10.

FYI...all of these sports media corporations consider Portland to be be part of the UofO's media market (OSU's as well). That has been substantially reported. It isn't just based upon the local population. Further, the viewership data has consistently shown that the Ducks are the most watched Pac-12 team and the most recognizable brand

with Portland in mind, it then becomes a competition for eyeballs. The Ducks are competing with the Blazers and OSU, and in terms of branding and viewership, OSU isn't really much competition.

you mentioned Cal/Stanford. In a way that's laughable because they are two of the most lowest rated, in terms of media, brands in the conference. Yes, they are in the Bay Area and that's a big population. But, they are competing with each other for eyeballs. Then they also have to compete with the Golden State Warriors, the 49ers, the Oakland A's, the SF Giants, & the San Jose Sharks. Again, the Ducks only have the Blazers in terms of pro competition

Colorado is competing with the Nuggets, the Broncos, the Rockies and the Avalanche. ASU with the Suns, Cardinals, Diamondbacks, & Coyotes

so no, I don't think you are accurate, at all, about the media leverage of the Ducks. If the UofO/UofW went to the Big-12 and asked to join, they'd be accepted by the end of the day. OSU and WSU wouldn't.

What a shit show. I just can't understand why no one is offering jack for the Pac 10, F you USC/UCLA. It's a storied conference. I get that it's not as strong as those good ol' boys conference, but it has a a ton of big time history. I can't believe National TV Networks are alienating the West. I just don't get it.

Might have something to do with the population disparity between the east coast and the west coast; as well as the corresponding population growth year-over-year in those areas.

As for history, they've got a whopping 2 national championships sans UCLA and USC, wouldn't exactly call that "big-time history".

Can’t the PAC-12 add some good teams outside the West that would like to be playing games in California?

Not without diluting what will already be a well below market average TV deal.

I think the reasons for the hold-up on any media deals is pretty obvious. The Big-1o may still admit the UofO/UofW. Brett Mcmurphy has said that both schools have been "vetted" and essentially passed the process. There is still some reluctance among Big-10 teams though. Not among the media partners. They want the Seattle and Portland media markets and they want Oregon's brand and the Nike connection. Some of the lesser schools in the Big-10 are worried about a dilution of their shares which is why, mainly, it hasn't happened yet. I've been told that neither the UofO or the UofW is accepting a 50% cut of shares for a few years; they want 70-80%, especially if they are the two schools that will have the most night games

anyway, the hold-up on the Pac-12 media deals is because UofO and UofW will not agree to any GOR that locks them in place. And as long as the UofO and UofW are not closing off their options for admittance to the Big-10, Arizona and Colorado (and to a lesser extent, Utah and ASU) are not closing off their their options to join the Big-12. And the media corporations don't want an open-ended GOR that could suddenly leave them with major content holes
