To be fair, it might require that package if we really wanted Bridges.

well, since half of that time Olshey was in charge, it's understandable why there was a lack of good trades

some of the better trades, at least in terms of incoming talent, were from tearing-down or getting-rid-of trades; trades that had become necessary:

    * Steve Smith for Derek Anderson & Steve Kerr
    * Rasheed for Abdur-Rahim and Theo Ratliff

but those were sending out as much talent as was coming in. Pay to receive

    some other notable trades:

    * Cash for James Jones and Rudy Fernandez
    * Steve Blake and Travis Outlaw for Marcus Camby

I'd say the two most impactful trades were for Camby and Lopez, especially considering the prices paid.

there's too many ancillary factors around the Nurkic trade to actually classify it one way or the other, IMO. Initially seemed like a steal for a player showing great upside. But he never reached that upside and never attained sustained consistency. And it's looking like injuries have significantly lowered his ceiling. It also looked like the Blazers just backed into that trade too. Maybe they were playing 3D chess

    * a 2025 1st plus TPE for Grant was a good trade

but yes, just about every team not named the Lakers will generally assemble most of their core thru the draft. A few big market teams will be free agent magnets as well.

No it won't. The difference between Simons and Bridges isn't #3 AND Sharpe.

Objectively you're right. But we're talking about human GMs playing poker. Let's not pretend that Joe hasn't made some really bad trades.

there's bad trades (which fans have completely blown out of proportion) and then there's trading away Simons + #3 + Sharpe for Mikal Bridges bad.

    Dear Charlotte Fans,
I have a brief history lesson for you. The Blazers in the playoffs was a forgone conclusion for many years. We slipped a little,
but used our late lotto pick on a high-paced point guard who could put up points in a hurry. Because we had this new pg, we decided
to trade down in the following draft so that we didn't have to take a pg again. So, we passed on Deron Williams and Chris Paul.
Our pg was soon off the team, and then out of the league.

Don't be like the Blazers (Patter-Nash era, I believe), choose bpa.

Is this relevant for the Blazers pick this year? You decide.

p.s. Sorry to bring up painful memories...

Not relavent because we have a generation talent in Dame. That team didn't have a talent like Dame. Now if the #3 can be turned into a star Wing ( Siakam, Bridges), you do it. If not, taking a chance that Miller will be a star seems likely. No need for Scoot.

I am certain bridges can't be a #1 on a contender, I think there is a chance shae can, so right there is a no.

Add the fact that the 3 might as well such a player if scoot falls there, and it's a mistake of epic proportions because I am not sure that the blazers - ant + bridges are a contender

With a good defensive roster next to him, I say yes.

I still think that if wes didn't blow up his knee way back, the blazers would have gone deep. Unfortunately, that and 2018 before Nurk broke his leg was about the closest to a contender we got to see.

Heck, the fact that 2018-19 team made it to the wcf without Nurk shows me dame can be the #1 option on a contender.

That’s fine. To each his own. Personally, I don’t get a kick out of watching Lillard take over meaningless games. I would trade that experience any day for a championship. I’m tired of seeing other teams win titles, year after year, and hearing Portland management say wait till “next season.” That’s been going on for over 45 years.

Mike Richman in this morning's Locked On Blazers podcast, pointed out an interesting stat.

44 of the last 67 MVP's have been Top 5 picks. That is a REALLY high percentage of the overall players drafted that are the best players in the league for their teams. The Blazers are in the unenviable position of doing what is best for the franchise, or doing what Dame wants. I don't believe those 2 things completely align for the long term health of the team. It stinks, but the timing is just bad. As I've posted earlier, I could be talked into trading the #3 for multiple Lottery picks like Orlando's #6/11 because the Blazers are more than 1 player away and that would still be a lot of young talent coming in to join Sharpe/Ant.

That would tend to contradict taking the pick that is in the Top 5, but I would rather do that than trade it for a player that won't help get a title here and will be prohibitively expensive after next season.

I think a lot of fans are having a hard time letting go because Dame is so loveable and we hadn't had a true superstar player on his level since Drexler. It's hard to let that go. But keeping Dame at this point is like owning a Ferrari while you're living in a trailer park. Sometimes you can't afford the luxury anymore. Time to sell the Ferrari so you can get out of the trailer park.

when I think about it...this is kind of an insulting post....it's saying that people like me can't see past emotion when it comes to Dame

I don't have much estrogen floating around my system. I'm being objective about Dame in my view. What I'm not doing is buying any of the trade-Dame bullshit you guys are selling, Not for one fucking second. I'm absolutely convinced that keeping Dame is the best chance Portland has at contending in the next 3-4 years. it might be a small chance, a remote chance at best, but it's the only chance Portland has. Trading Dame moves that potential window of contention to 2030, or beyond; probably even further.

it was about 25 years between when Clyde was in his prime and when Dame was. 25 long years...that's how long it took the Blazer franchise between drafting and developing top-10 players. Two top-10 players in 25 years. Expecting Portland to do it twice in less than 10 years is nuts

I think if we draft Miller, and Cronin is able to make his case to Dame that there were no fair moves to have us contend, ultimately Dame will return next season. Especially if we have a good MLE signing and a couple other vet pickups.

Now drafting Scoot is much more problematic because he doesn't fit a team need and totally duplicates Dame/Ant. Miller is basically the prototype player we've desperately been searching for since the beginning of the DameCJ era.

Probably also could depend a lot of what Dame thinks of Miller after the interviews/workouts/draft process. Dame was impressed with Sharpe and eventually was very supportive of the pick. He certainly wasn't supportive of drafting a young player back in April.

Why would you think it applies to you? I said "a lot of fans." I did not say "all fans."

If you think it applies to you, then maybe it does, but there are a lot of fans (there's that phrase again) who want to keep Dame because they think he still provides us with the best shot at a ring. I can understand that logic. I'm not talking about fans who are thinking logically. I'm talking about the fans who don't want to trade Dame because of the warm and fuzzies.

If you think Dame still gives us the best shot at a ring, that's fine. I can see the reasoning behind that thought. I'm not sure if I agree with it, but I can still understand it. I don't agree with fans who think we should keep Dame simply because he wants to be here, or because Dame is a superstar and you don't trade superstars. The goal is to win a championship. I'm always trying to think about the long game. As much fun as it is to see Dame drop 71, I would much rather see a championship parade in my lifetime.

If we draft Scoot, we 100% have to trade Ant.

Honestly, I think we need to 100% trade Ant anyway, but bringing in another short guard only cements that opinion completely.

Lovely veiled misogyny in your post about being insulted by the insinuation that emotions might possibly inform your rationale.
