?

What are you hoping for with this pick?

  1. Draft Scoot and keep him

    27.6%
  2. Draft Miller and keep him

    28.6%
  3. Draft someone else at 3 and keep him (please specify)

    3.1%
  4. Trade down, but still draft in the lottery

    10.2%
  5. Trade the pick for a starting forward

    30.6%

Dame wanted the #7 pick to be traded until he saw the asking price.

I have no doubt that if the asking price is ridiculous, Dame will see that and agree that they should use the pick.

Also, we're thinking of the pick in terms of value. But our scouts have an idea of how good Scoot or Miller will be and value it as such.

If the trade ain't there, it ain't there. Let's hope Scoot and Miller have killer workouts with the Blazers and they are evaluated highly. If they're not, perhaps Blazers will pay more to get a Bridges/Brown/Siakam or move back in the draft.

    I trust our scouts.

Yes, Simons coming off the bench making $24 million makes sense when the starting shootings guard is making $6 million and in his 2nd season.

Givony on Wojs podcast said the player needs to blow the Blazers out of park in order for us to move the 3rd pick and right now that player isn’t there. Doesn’t think we are going to trade it.

Perhaps Dame will see it that way and still rather go to a more veteran team we’re he can win now, Not later.

So Givony said Scoot/Miller need to blow the Blazers out of the park in a pre-draft workout for us to be willing to trade it? That doesn't make sense to me.

I am happy to see Givony carrying water for Schmitz!

    Which would be who?

I'm still struggling to see the trade where Portland gets back solid value and it still leaves Dame's new team with a contending roster. Boston, maybe?

No, they need to be in love with the package another team gives us, and that deal isn't on the table.

From just listening to a few people, I don't think the Blazers want to trade the pick. Bridges/Brown for Simons/3rd is probably the only move they'd do, and even then, it would be done with reluctance.

I think Jody/Bert/FO hope that we can just use the pick and Dame is okay with it. Saves them a huge amount of money in the next few season if they don't have to pay a Brown or Siakam because we likely won't need to go into the tax.

I also don't think they would mind if Dame asks out.

I have a serious Sixers fan friend and he says he’d do it if Scoot was in the deal. Sixers need a reset.

does "player needs to blow the Blazers out of park" mean trade target, like Bridges or Brown? seems like a statement more congruent with a prospect rather than an established NBA player

I think the Blazers are in the position to know the value of Bridges-Brown-Siakam...they've watching that value for years on NBA floors. Maybe Givony meant the "trade offers" had to blow Portland out of the park?

never mind, I found it at youtube:

what he sure appears to be saying is that Portland values that 3rd pick a lot more than many assume; and that to convince the Blazers to trade it, an OFFER would need to blow Portland out of the park. Probably meaning that the least Portland would want for 3 would be Bridges/Brown and if any team had to add more, it wouldn't be the Blazers

that kinds of fit with my thinking...which has been that Portland is not nearly as willing to dump a 3rd pick as many are assuming. I think the chances are pretty good the Blazers keep the picks and try and convince Dame that was the best path forward

Woj pointed out, which some of us here have, is that the generic value of a 3rd pick is made even higher in a 3 person draft

If it's Scoot I don't think there is any reason for Dame to be OK with it. Miller would be a different story. I still think that Joe has laid out two scenarios for Dame and those are that he either gets Dame an all star running mate or he'll find Dame a good team to trade him to. I guess we could draft at 3 and still get that second all star (maybe it's KAT). I guess I can see some scenarios where we keep who we draft with the third pick and Dame I just don't think that was the plan going into the off season.

I don't think it saves Portland that much money Ant + pick = about 35M/year over next 3 years

I think ownership and the F.O. would mind quite a bit if Dame asks out, but they would pivot quickly if that happens

I think Dame won't need much convincing to stay. He obviously wants to, and the Blazers are reportedly keeping him in the loop. And if Scoot & Miller & Amen work out for the Blazers it's pretty certain Dame will be there. On the other hand if Brooklyn is willing to accept just #3 + Ant for Bridges, or Boston is for Brown, Dame might have issues with it...maybe. But I'm betting both teams ask for quite a bit more

Schmitz worked for Givony at Draftexpress and then ESPN after they bought the site.
