Even if a "favor" is returned I'm not sure we would ever hear of it. Maybe Ant and Nurk agreed to sit out games to help us get the Sharpe pick because we were on great terms with their agents. Maybe when Kanter and Seth Curry signed here it was party because we had a good dialog with their agents. Maybe Jerami Grant forcing his way here last summer so we only had to give up one mediocre pick, and then agreeing to sit out the tanking for the #3 pick this last season, was because we had very good relationship with his agent. Maybe none of that matters and we would've had the same results regardless of agent relationships or favors. I don't think we'll ever know how much this has helped or doesn't help.
They can get a better return for Brown than they can get for a pick. They are in win now mode. They don't want cash. They want production on the court right now for another run at a championship right now. Nothing else makes sense to me.
They were talking about his D today on one of the stations. They pointed out that a couple of years ago he was one of the best perimeter defenders in the league and that he slipped a bit once his offense got better. The bottom IMO is if he once was an elite defender then he has the ability to be great at it again.
Listening to Bill Simmons podcast had me realize something, he was complaining how the Celtics have only won 1 title in the last 15 years So if Brown stays in Boston, and wins 2-3 titles he'd be one piece of the 4th best group of Celtics? If they win 1 title it'll probably be a massive irrelevant historic disappointment. Compare that to Portland, if he teams up with Dame and their core wins a single title he'd be immortalized for the next century.
I think Bill did a bit on Portland once, saying how since Portland has 1 of the major 4 teams, that 1 title feels like 4. So if Damian were to be part of a title team in Portland, even if he's an auxiliary player at that point (i.e., Sharpe just goes absolutely bonkers and becomes everything we hope he can x100), he'll be remembered as the greatest Oregonian ever.
I could see Raptors, Celtics and Nets all jockeying for that #3/Ant package. Do the Nets really need 3 firsts? Have them kick back their #22 pick instead. Remember that it was likely filler + 4 late Memphis firsts that Marks declined, not an up-and-coming guard and a #3 pick.
If the team wins a title, it'll be a no brainer. It would be interesting to list the top like 50 or 100 Oregonians (either native or lived here/made their name here).
Yes, I don't think its ideal for Brown to be scoring 26ppg as he did last season, it's just not possible to have enough energy to also try really hard on defense. Similarly Damian shouldn't be scoring 32ppg as he did last year, if the Blazers are legit trying to contend. If the Blazers had Brown/Dame/Grant/Sharpe on offense, plus some two way role players contributing on offense, they should all be able to more equally share the offensive load so everyone can focus more on defense.
If Dame does win a title in Portland and retires as a Blazer he could probably get elected as mayor of Portland or governor of the state if he ever wanted. He's a great speaker so I wouldn't put it past him. Kevin Johnson was mayor of Sacramento. A number of athletes have been elected to congress, many of whom are far less skilled at speaking or critical thinking than Dame.
Yeah, those mistakes (highlighted in the video package) aren't something someone who has been in the league 7 years should still be making.
This could go in a couple threads but will put it in here ---- no matter if it's Brown and Bridges or something else other teams are going to try and get either Sharpe and/or another 1st out of it maybe 2 and the blazers have to decide is it worth it cause I will be honest if we have to give up more then ONE more future 1st I think I would prefer to get Bridges IF the Blazers have to decide between the two.
