I was right there with you last year. Made no sense to me. Jabari couldn't dribble. Last year however we were comparing 2 SF/PFs. Much more of an apples-to-apples comparison than a 6'9+ wing and a 6'2 guard.
There are tons of freak athletes who suck on defense; but in the clip above, part of the reason Fran thinks Scoot could be a good fit is because Charlotte's coach will force his ass to play defense and they have a good system. Who knows what will happen though. I will admit that someone with the physical tools to play defense is more likely to become a passable defender than someone like Duncan Robinson or Enes Kanter, clearly. There is no indication that Scoot wants to play defense and loves to play defense, which is a key component to being a good defender. Want to.
I'm a BIG Scoot fan, but I agree that his athleticism is being a touch overrated by the media. In terms of pure explosion and jumping ability, I think Rose, Morant, and Westbrook are all better athletes. Scoot certainly has better power though than any of the three and he has excellent contact balance. Really the best athlete in the draft is probably Amen, and if Scoot is gone at #2 and the Blazers are keeping the pick, it wouldn't shock me to see them go Amen over Miller (heck, I wouldn't even be shocked if they went Amen over Scoot for that matter). The Blazers drafted for upside last year to great success, and I could see them following suit this year. Outside of Wemby, I think Amen has the highest ceiling in the draft, including Scoot.
Miller seems like a more immediate impact player that would be a better fit with Dame, but Amen has the higher upside and seems more long-term. I would be excited for whichever our scouts thought would be the guy. Miller seems to have less weaknesses.
If Scoot is there at 3, and Portland prefers Amen, and Houston wants Scoot, we damn well better trade down and get something more. but of course, that requires Portland to keep quiet and not give the play book away. I have not been impressed with their ability to keep trade secrets secret.
Who is Dean and why would we care to read his tweet? I'm not asking this in a snarky way, but if it is YOUR opinion, that's great. If there are some sort of numbers or something being quoted, I'd get it. If Dean was someone who mattered/knows what he's talking about, then... that makes sense. Maybe Dean is someone I should know about? Otherwise I'm just confused.
He's Dean on Draft, that's who. As far why we would care? Who the bleep knows. More than half of National Media Sports personalities have Headupcha anyways.
It is like me making a post like this: "My brother loves Scoot. He thinks he's really going to be good." Like... who cares? Haha
Once you scratch the surface of Dean on Draft it gets dicey quick. Stay safe out there on the internet, friends.
And that’s why you don’t dog it, ever, if you’re trying to make it to the NBA … as I was saying earlier
Huh? He's the consensus #2 pick in the greatest league in the world. I heard the same nonsense about Shaedon Sharpe. Scoot has more value in a trade should they want it.
Did you read this? https://www.espn.com/nba/insider/in...l-five-charlotte-hornets-2023-nba-draft-picks “Had Henderson made a better case for himself with the way he evolved this past season for G League Ignite in terms of his decision-making, perimeter shooting and defensive intensity, there would be a better argument to try to make the backcourt pairing of him and LaMelo Ball work in the long term. Many NBA executives say they were disappointed in what they saw from Henderson this season in repeated viewings, which will likely cause him to fall to No. 3 unless he blows the Hornets away in their private workout.” As far as consensus #2: “Most NBA teams we've spoken with have Miller over Henderson on their draft board, and it wouldn't surprise anyone if that is the direction the Hornets go on draft night.” Now this is time for smoke and mirrors so who knows about that, but here’s an undeniable fact: Brandon Miller was consistently showing up at “2” on mocks before the draft lottery even took place and as early as November and he is still #2 according to about half the mocks. As far as who has more value in a trade: We have no idea. Givony says teams have Miller higher. I’ve said for a while now that teams covet 6’9 do it all forwards more than 6’2 scoring guards with defensive question marks because one is a lot harder to find than the other. In fact they’re so hard to find we are pretty much trying to auction off the 3rd pick AND a small scoring guard to acquire said forward.
Not saying Scoot is a bum, but for someone who is supposed to be the 2nd pick in the draft/future star, his #'s in the g-league were not exactly lighting things up.
It's Michael Jordan's religion to take the wrong guy in the draft. Just like the Kings. This is one source but the majority has had Scoot at 2. Only time will tell and only one of these players have shown maturity issues in past and has a murder case hanging over there head.
