Culpepper and McCown still competing for job
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/08/31/SPP8RSDBR.DTL

The practice season is over, the game stats are in, and the winner is ... well, Raiders coach Lane Kiffin is going to need a few more days on this one.
If Thursday's 19-14 loss to the Seahawks will preside as the knot buster, Raiders quarterback Daunte Culpepper just may have won the starting job for the Sept. 9 season opener against the visiting Lions.
Or, not. If this was an easy call, Kiffin would have made it two weeks ago.
"As for the quarterback question, don't have an answer for you," Kiffin said. Oops, that was a typo on my part... that's Josh McCown that's trying to win the Oakland job. Cade McNown is parking cars for a living somewhere.
(Utah Jazz owner) Larry Miller got the rights to show Raiders preseason games here in Utah. Daunte has looked pretty good; mentally & physically. At one point last night, it said DC was 15-29 for 200 yds & 3 TD's. That is a QBE of 108.4. Bottom line; He has outperformed McCown & Trent Green.
I read on SI.com that if Culpepper does not get the starting job, the Raiders will release him or shop him around. So sad because I think he deserves it and is a great QB.
Culpepper wil start. He give us our best chance at winning. He looks as good right now as he ever has, and McCown is just not an NFL starter.
I’d be surprised to see anyone but Culpepper [start] under center against the Lions. Although he still has that unsettling fumbled snap problem, he has overall looked sharp and healthy this preseason.
