This is pretty shocking news. Where does Byron land?

The Jacksonville Jaguars will name David Garrard their starting quarterback for the 2007 season on Friday, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported.

Team and league sources said that former starter Byron Leftwich will likely be traded or released.

Leftwich missed 15 games the last two seasons because of an injured left ankle. He had surgery last November, more than a month after coach Jack Del Rio benched him in favor of Garrard.

The Jaguars have been actively calling teams around the league to gauge interest in Leftwich, who is in the last year of his contract. He had been designated as the starter in the offseason by Del Rio.

Team sources said Garrard's continued development in training camp and preseason convinced Del Rio that Garrard was the right quarterback for the team.

The Jaguars are also trying to acquire a veteran quarterback to serve as a backup and may turn to former Jaguars quarterback Mark Brunell.

Garrard went 145-of-241 for 1,735 yards, 10 touchdowns and nine interceptions last season, with a passer rating of 80.5.

Leftwich was 108-of-183 for 1,159 yards, seven TDs and five interceptions last season, with a passer rating of 79.0.

I cant see him being traded, I think he is released now. Kansas City, get on it.

That is my bet, if I am the Chief's I would jump all over Byron, mostly because I dont like Croyle at all.

Leftwich looked pretty horrible against the Packers in pre-season. I'm not COMPLETELY shocked by this.

Yeah, Chiefs are better off waiting on a QB in the draft. Brian Brohm or Andre Woodson.

Get your dirty hands off of Brohm. He's ours.

I heard folks talking about this before the Redskins game the other night and took it as completely meaningless... I mean, why the hell would the Jags do this? Maybe Leftwich is just completely unable to do anything because of injuries? Because he's always looked pretty damn good to me.

I heard it was all Jack Del Rio. He's been wanting to go a different direction for a yr or so. Probably doesn't think Leftwich can be the guy.

I always liked Leftwich in college, but he's not a mobile QB & he was always getting hurt.

Atlanta. Duh. If Snyder was still the meddler he once was, I wouldn't count him out in DC either, but since Gibbs is running the show, nevermind.

I dunno what the right team for him is. Atlanta seems pretty sensible, but my general feeling is that you can't just add a QB this late in the season and expect him to come in and start. It just seems to me that the Falcons have a lot of craziness going on already, and they might be better off just sitting back and, in the likely even Harrington isn't very good, they get a good shot at Brian Brohm.

A team that'd make pretty good sense to me for Leftwich would be the Lions. Kitna's a kind of caretaker/backup guy no matter what anyone trys to tell me. They've got a lot of offensive weapons and nobody behind Kitna. So he could potentially go there and have the opportunity to get up to speed and potentially be a long-term solution. Seems sensible to me.

Lions are a perfect fit like MikeDC said. I mean Leftwich has that rocket arm and with WRs like Calvin Johnson and Roy Williams, he would do good there. Also, Atlanta might look into him. I thought possibly Baltimore and Minnesota but that's unlikely. I knew he was going to get traded or released eventually. I thought they would just wait until his contract was up but he's always injured. Garrard has mobility and also has arm. Quinn Gray is actually pretty good if any of you people have seen him play.

I wish the best for Byron, and I defenitely don't like the timing off all this but I'd rather this happen then people to keep asking for B's head, and the media stop talking about a quarterback controversy.

As long as DeSean Jackson falls to the phins, It really doesn't matter who ends up where. My question: Does Millen draft Jason Williams (Oregon WR) who comes in @ 6'5" 240?

I am really not surprised about Leftwich. It'll be funny if Oakland release Daunte & signs Byron.

Even more hilarious; JaMarcus finally signs,McCown & Walterget released, & Al Davis signs Byron.
