QUOTE

Before Torii Hunter announced that he would wait until season's end to negotiate a new contract, he had discussions with the Twins that quickly hit a roadblock. A person familiar with the discussions said Monday that the Twins made Hunter an offer late last month -- for three years and $45 million. Twins General Manager Terry Ryan declined to comment, but with Hunter less than a month from free agency, the sides appear far from an agreement. Hunter, 32, is believed to be seeking a five-year, $70 million deal, similar to the one J.D. Drew signed with Boston last winter.-- Star Tribune

... at 32, I don't think Hunter is gonna find a taker at 70M/5 years.

if Drew is worth 5/70 than Hunter is worth 2x that....atleast thats the posture his agent will be taking....the problem is that Drew isnt worth even close to what hes stealing from the Red Sox....someone will pay Hunter, someone always steps up

The Twins are in a bad situation. Now if their offer is blown out of the water, Santana can look at what kind of market the Twins are in, vs. others.

Lets not go nuts, down year for homeruns in the AL.

Look at the list of top 5, no Manny, no Ortiz, no Vlad...

I don't think Hunter is going to stay with the Twins, Hunter probably thinks he could get more on the open market from a team like the Yankees who could really use Hunter's defense. If they get Hunter they could put Matsui in LF, Hunter in CF and Melky in RF. That would be a good defensive team.

I'm not saying it isn't, but with THAT kind of defense, and hitting 290, and will end with 30+ homer and around ~15 SB, for around 15mil per. Damn

    Damn

He SHOULD get more than Andruw.

I think Jones is 3 years younger.

Look at the Yankees and Damon now? I don't think you give a guy Hunter/Damon's age that kind of money.

Alright, hypothetical, 1 year contract, in the AL.

Would you rather have Torii or Andruw?

Though I do agree about the Johnny thing. (I was thinking about bringing him up) That was a pretty idiotic contract.

Anyway, the twins wanted him to take 2 mil more than damon?
