Could Eli's Daddy be calling the shots here? Perhaps the Raiders are better off without that drama (the Raiders create enough of their own already). If the Giants get Manning at #1, I still like Rothlisberger at #2. Of course, many folks believe Robert Gallery will be the Raiders choice, but you just never know with the Silver and Black. They love to surprise even their own faithful.

I want them to draft Manning or Rothlisberger. Can I get an early gift this year?

Although, it would be hilarious if the Chargers simply take a different player at #1, and the Raiders take Manning at #2. Then the Raiders beat up the Chargers for the next 10 years with Manning. LOL!!!!

In reality though, I believe that the Chargers will not allow the Raiders that opportunity and trade the #1 with a non-division rival (New York Giants). It may even happen tomorrow.

Archie Manning told the Chargers a week ago that he didnt want Eli to play in San Diego...the Chargers insisted on a meeting between thier GM, Marty Schottenheimer, and Archie. After the meeting, Archie told them he still didnt want them to draft Eli....he never said Eli wont play for him...and since the Mannings are footballs royal family, I doubt Eli would sit out...he will play in San Diego if the Chargers have thier hearts set on it....

That's fine, he won't be a lame duck, but the fact remains that Eli's dad is telling a specific team that his son should not be drafted by them. It strikes me as a bit snobby on the part of the Mannings. I like this situation because it opens up the possibility that my team will be allowed the choice to pick him up at #2. Even if the Raiders don't want him, that gives the Raiders a bit more leverage with possibly trading their #2 pick. This scenerio can only happen if San Diego doesn't trade their pick.

Wow, what a great draft we will get to see on Saturday, eh?

Whatever happened to the confidence a player is supposed to have in his abilities to put the team and his shoulders and win?? Sounds like Archie is saying the only way his son can win is if he's surrounded by a bunch of good players...

If Eli goes to SD and lights it up in a losing cause, players will take notice. Some good drafting and better FA moves, and SD could be on the map.

I think Archie was concerned with their lack of committment to building a better offensive line. I think he's wanting Eli to be protected better and didn't feel like San Diego was going to do that for him. I wouldn't want to play for San Diego either, but it's a shame if San Diego doesn't get to work something out for that pick. They need so much help.

How ironic if the team that the Mannings think "arent commited to the O-line" draft a left tackle 1st overall...

I think its bullshit if the Chargers let Eli and Archie dictate whom they draft....Its unfortunate that the Manningsthink they are entitled to choose the team they play for right out of college....Eli should learn from his big brother and go get his head beat in for a season, earn the trust of his peers and then lead them to the promise land(Void where prohibited by Peyton never reaching the promise land)....

I hardly think New York is much better. I think if he was being completely selfish, he would want a better opportunity than the Giants.

I don't like what Archie is doing, but you have to admit its completely understandable. He's a dad and you want the best for your kids. Couple that with the fact that while Peyton got his head beat in for a year or two, Archie got it beat in for like 15.

Archie can talk all he wants, and I understand where he is coming from. I think the Chargers and Eli should be the ones that dictate where he plays though, and not Archie.

As a P.S., I would also love that irony factor if Accorsi ends up on the other side of this situation. Much different than 83 with Elway.

But really a good point in the fact that Archie shouldn't be voicing his opinion publicly. This should be handled behind closed doors.

I think in one of the ESPN articles, it said the Manning family wanted to keep this private, but a SD exec has been leaking the info...

Lack of tact for it to get out. There's no need for it to ever leave that circle.

I find that interesting. You would think SD would have more bargaining power if other teams thought SD might take him. If someone wants Eli, I would think you could just as easily trade Oakland picks as San Diego. I know, Oakland may not want to trade, but it does open up more options.

It comes down to who wants Manning the most. I think that alone gives San Diego power. Someone will trade up. I can't believe that he will fall to Oakland. San Diego will be wasting the first pick overall if they do that.

I wouldn't want to play for the Chargers either, but the bottom line is that it shouldn't have gotten out how he felt. It was irresponsible on the Chargers Executives letting that out in the open. Poor choice on their part.

The Giants and Chargers are still far off on negotiations. Come to Al Davis....

I dont blame the chargers at all for this...if the Mannings were doing that to me, I would sscrew them too, and go public...right after I traded the pick....

If they were committed to win, Manning would be there with bells on.
