michael jordan the greatest player of all time? pssssh pleeeeaaase. don't get me wrong, but jordan is one of the greatest...but he is not the greatest. besides, how do you define "greatness?"

do you go by who's scored the most points ever? cuz that would be kareem abdul jabbar with 38,387 pts.

do you go by the most championship rings? cuz that would be bill russell with 11 rings.

do you go by the most versatile player in history? cuz that would be magic johnson.

do you go by who revolutionalized the game? cuz that would be wilt chamberlain.

jordan is definately one of the most clutch players in history...i'm not gonna take that away from him. greatest of our time? definately. but for someone to say that he is the greatest of all-time...that is an over-statement.

That's a matter of opinion. No one can say that somebody is the greatast. There are also five different positions. He is the greatast 2 guard to play the game though.

We could all spout off statistics "proving" our opinion, but it's pointless. Personally, I think he is the greatest of all-time. Whether or not the next guy does doesn't matter to me.

I think Magic said it best, "Jordan is the greatest player of all-time and Bill Russell is the greatest winner of all-time."

    ...

however, if you go by all the criteria you posted then most people would say Jordan would be the best...and whose to say that if Jordan didn't cut out two years of his career that he wouldn't be all-time scoring leader with 8 championships? Also, Jordan revolutionized the game more than Wilt did just from a marketing basis alone...he was also a great all-around player...with all that being said I still think Wilt is the greatest of all-time, however, saying there is a greatest of all-time is kind of slighting the past and present greats who have revolutionized the game one way or another...without Dr. J inspiring Jordan we probably wouldn't have a Jordan...without Magic inspiring Kidd or Jordan inspiring Kobe and Tracy we probably wouldn't have a Kidd, Jordan, or Kobe...really in my eyes all of the past greats deserve a share in the title of the G.O.A.T.

i believe i've supported my argument with facts, so to say that i have no knowledge of the nba is an invalid point.

and to say that i show no respect for the game of basketball is a moot point. i did acknowledge that jordan is one of the greatest. i just don't think he is the greatest ever.

players are great in their own way. but to say that one player is The Greatest...that is one hell of a title. jordan is great in his own right, and i'm not trying to take that away from him...but i am still not convinced that he is The Greatest of All-Time.

so he needs to jump from half court? or win 10 nba titles?

no 1 else in the game has done more than him, which makes him labeled the greatest ever, even the players (tmac, ivy) know, the label is there, wasnt bought or made up, it was given cus he earned it. now tell me who has done wat he has? ... no 1...close the casket n count the basket...thats all their is to say.

I don't think there's such thing as the "greatest bball player ever" just because u can't compare the 5 positions. How in the world do you compare say someone like shaq and say, Iverson. Who's better you say? If you answer either one, you're retarded. They play different positions and, I'm gonna stretch this out a bit, different basketball game.

So let's go back to Jordan. He's the BEST 2-guard to play the game of basketball ever. Who has come close to him? Kobe is on his way to rival MJ's greatness actually but we'll see in a couple of years. It's too early right now.

Each player was special in some way. Wilt the Stilt scored but wast a 50% FT shooter. Same goes for Shaq. Iverson is fast but misses sometimes alot. Each player is special in a different. If every one did the samething it would be very boring.

that statement seems more fitting -- the greatest 2-guard ever. i'll agree with that.

and kobe, he's definately coming into his own. he's got a lot of jordanesque in his game, plus a little big a magic johnson. ie kobe's role requires more playmaking then jordan's role on the bulls.

He is the greatest all around palyer ever, does that sum it up for you. the guy has 6 rings, scoring titles, defensive awards, 14 all star apperances, among other things.

oooh very good question. i'm not so sure about all the other positions but one thing i know for sure is john stockton is the greatest pure point guard ever. (magic johnson was a freak of nature, so he doesn't count)

oh, and MJ for shooting guard.
