sorry big d, you were right about the $10mil, new terms were released. $4.74 million next season and $5.28 million in 2004-05. The team will then hold an option for a third season.
I'm surprised I don't see any posts saying this is a mistake, so, THIS IS A MISTAKE. 90% of players past age 36 years old break down. Then you're stuck with this contract until 2005. I think it is wise to go with year to year contracts past the age of 35. I know players and agents will whine but I'd rather have another team make the mistake of signing a declining player to a long term contract. I bet Toronto wishes they could have the money back they spent on Olajuwon and will wish they hadn't signed AD for as long as they did.
nbaaddict, its NOT a mistake. i'm not even gonna go throught this again.. basically the money doesnt hurt us and we need cliff & his veteran leadership. 'nuff said
Every season cliff has made the playoffs..enough said And it is not a mistake signing cliff..joe dumars is a great GM and all his plans have worked well.Look at the past few trades...
And some people in the NBA still have game when they are 35+. Stockton,Malone,Jordan, and I dont see Cliff fading soon.
I can see I got a reaction! Good to see such great Detroit fans here. Perhaps Detroit can afford a gamble. Perhaps Cliff is able to play well past the age of 36. I'll grant the leadership role. Even if he is on the bench he can be valued leader. But I'm not convinced. There are too many Patrick Ewings, Horace Grants, Akeem Olajuwons, Larry Johnsons, etc., who end up hurting franchises with big contracts and no returns.
