So he shouldn't sign because they lost two hall of hamers? the NBA is about money...Terry wants as much as he can get....and we don't know if Jazz will suck until we see them play..remember people picked them miss the playoffs this past season. They still have a great coach...and good young players....

    From now

Hawks have 15 days to match the offer...depends how much it is...will decide if they will match or not..

    Here is the link

    http://www.nba.com/jazz/news/terry_091103.html

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Utah Jazz President Dennis Haslam announced Thursday, September 11, that the team has signed restricted free agent guard Jason Terry to an offer sheet. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Under the Collective Bargaining Agreement set forth by the National Basketball Association, the Atlanta Hawks will have 15 days to match the offer.

The former University of Arizona All-American has spent the first four years of his career with the Hawks, averaging 16.1 points and 5.6 assists in 34.2 minutes per game and has played in 322 of a possible 326 since being drafted in the first round (10th pick overall) in the 1999 NBA Draft. He has connected on .849 percent from the free throw line for his career, including .887 percent in 2002-03 to rank 6th in the league.

Terry scored 17.2 points, while shooting .428 percent from the field and a career-best 7.4 assists, good for 7th in the league during the 2002-03 season. He had his best season in 2000-01 when he averaged a career-high 19.7 points, shooting .436 percent from the field, including .395 percent from three-point range.</div>

It took long enough, Maggette got resinged a long time ago now. The Jazz were lucky no other team made a run at him, he's one of the best remaining FA's. Sacramento could of traded Keon to any team with cap space, if they hadn't done that and some other team got Terry, Utah's offseason would of been a disaster. Now it's gaining respectabilty.

Atlanta can still match the offer, but at least there is progress for Terry. The Jazz have not had a good SG since Hornacek. I don't think Terry should play the point, and the Jazz might need to bring in a big guard or a SF who can bring the ball up. Jerry Sloan runs a strict offense and Terry might have a tough time buying into the concept of pass first. I think SJax is a better fit in Utah, but Terry is definately an improvement over their current backcourt.

    Roster
    -------
    PG - Terry
    SG - Stevenson
    SF - Harpring
    PF - AK47
    C - Clark

Not a bad starting 5, plus we have yet to see what Borchardt is capable of and rookie Pavlovic has some nice skills. The Jazz should be able to be competitive with their size depth. But they lack any offensive punch off the bench. Maybe they can trade some size for one of the SG/SF's in Memphis.

    Jazz

If Utah ends up with Terry, he will eventually fall into the 2 guard slot. He shoots way too much to play the point. Carlos Arroyo should end up logging the majority of minutes at the point as he is a talented up-and-coming player. If things work out that way it will give the Jazz more of the depth they need. Terry must need the money to voluntarily sign with Utah.

Need? More like want. If he was offered enough money, he'd probably play anywhere.

I've just listened to Terry's interview on the radio...He was very insulted by the offer the Hawks made him....and does not want to go back there period....He has asked the Hawks not to match and let him go and play for the Jazz..basically what Odom asked but didn't insult their franchise..just he wanted to go "in a different direction"

I've heard all kind of rumours what the contract size actually is...I heard 42 million for 6 years..and 55-60 million for 6 years....Time will tell what it is.Whatever it is he has told the Hawks not to match.

Shoots too much? Who are we talking about, AI? Terry had a great assist year last year, dishing out 7.4 a game (which was a career high for him) on that crappy Hawks team.

I think he can play the point and be effective, while still being a top 3 scoring option for a team.

True. He had just as many apg as Stockton did last season, he just scored more, and right now, the Jazz are gonna need scoring.

You beat me to it. The Jazz NEED scoring. It's doubtful that they'll even make the playoffs this year. They've made some great additions in Keon Clark, and now possible Terry.

They've got Harpring who can score. AK-47 who brings instant energy off the bench (they should find a way to start him), etc. But considering that they were 7th seed last year (and they have great chemistry with Stockton and Malone), it's doubtful that they'll do any better.

According to this article..Hawks might well match...time will tell though

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">RealGM has learned that the Atlanta Hawks will indeed match the Sept. 11 offer sheet by the Jazz for Jason Terry, though it?s likely that the Hawks will wait the full 15 days before making any decision official.

The terms of the contract appear to be approximately a 3 year, 20 million dollar deal, much less than thought by many who have followed the story throughout the entire summer, and frontloaded as has been proposed in this space.

The Hawks apparently offered Terry a longer and more lucrative deal before the fifth year guard decided to sign the shorter, cheaper contract with the Jazz, gambling that larger dollars would be there after the three year deal ran out. The Jazz would have held Bird rights to Terry at that time.

Terry is taking an awful risk spurning the Hawks money. There are many factors which could make this deal a bad one for Terry.</div>
