I am so sick of the media saying how great Vick is. Their new thing this year is that Vick can't fail now that he is in the West coast offense. In fact, they should make the playoffs, etc...

This offense does seem a more suited for him. As I understand it, it takes a while to learn. If Joey Harrington is still struggling to grasp its nuances and he is going on his third year rhen how is MV suppose to pick it up overnight?

Harrington was in a pro stlye offense at Oregon for 4 yrs. Va Tech has more option based offense and Vick only played 1 year. So JH has the advantage. Favre, if you recall, struggled to pick up this offense. Further, the WCO is a more cerebral offense one where raw athleticism is nice but not required to run.

pennington picked up the west coast offense pretty well, but he also studied it for the first two years he was on the bench

Michael Vick is just exciting to watch. It's not normal for a QB to run the ball like him. Give it another year or two, the hype will die down.

Vick is probably on if the most Mobile, nice armed passer that teh NFL has ever seen. I think hes great and Sunday Afternoon in Mid September in Atlanta is one of the most exciting shows in the history of earth.

Vick is good so far. Vick may be great some day. In fact, I expect that he will. He's great in stretches, but not for a season, yet. I expect that within the next couple of years, if he can stay healthy, he will be in line for most people to stop doubting him. I doubt him, but I don't fully trust him yet either.

The novelty will wear off but not the hype; is that what you are saying, Dawk??

I think Public Enemy said it best, "Don't believe the hype"

the novelty will def. wear off, if it already hasnt, the hype will be there as long as hes the only black QB running for 50 yard TDs in OT

the hype will be there as long as hes a top marketable(thanks chip) athlete.

but in a few years there will be a new QB that will take vicks limelight like vick took mcnabbs/cullpeppers and mcnabb/cullpepper to mcnairs

Dawk, Atlanta is not a top market. If you mean that he is one of the top marketed black athletes... Different scenario.

hes got no accuracy, i'm not much of a vick fan. Hes a great scrambling qb and amazing power, but hes gotta work on the aiming stuff to become a dominate qb in the west coast offense. wow imagine he had accuracy. scary thoughts

Vick is like Mcnabb, except he is a lot faster, more agile, and more marketable to african american youths(this is going to get me in trouble) they can relate cuz he has street cred though brother being in jail. Best part is he didnt do it himself so he still can be marketed to white america. He will ultimately IMO be more successful than Mcnabb cuz he has a better arm.

That mold of a QB has yet to win a Super Bowl. That mold being fast, agile and more running back like. Vick isn't very accurate either and more fragile, so I wouldn't be so sure he'll be more successful than McNabb.

Despite my head telling me no... I'll dive in... My version of getting into trouble BF...

Uh. Family in jail or not is not as marketable as you might think, unless you are stealing millions from a bunch of grandmas like some televangel.... errr. Maybe I'm mistaken, but in most families, going to jail is still considered a less than admirable thing no matter your color. In polite society, among the gentry, we don't consider it a sign of being a man to have gone to jail, nor a special feat to have not gone. Although, as a side note, I suggest that everyone go for night, week, or month and get your priorities fixed on what is really important in life. Jail is a F*cked up place.

Perhaps street cred is of value, but street cred isn't really a market full of dollars for the corporate NFL. Remember that most of the dollars generated on the street go back to the street. The NFL is an entity that thrives on people with disposable income.

And Vick will be better than McNabb when he learns to harness the energy and put the ball on target.

You are right. And isn't it ironic how a QB like Trent Dilfer who is anything but exceptional is able to wear a ring as a starting QB? The fact is, you need a QB who doesn't make a lot of mistakes.

I think that we will soon see the new bread of QBs win a superbowl, but they need to mature first. If McNabb and Culpepper stay on their torrent pace of QB ratings around 120-125, don't be surprised to see one of them win the SB.

Vick does have more raw skills, he just needs to learn how to not make mistakes...fewer turnovers and getting postive yardage on every play.
