With the recent trade that sent Moochie Norris and John Amachei, Houston now has a void at the back-up PG spot. Mike Wilks played 8 minutes last night however for Houston to be successful, they really need a better back-up PG. There is always the possibility of us trading for one however for now lets assume that we don't trade for one.

Here are some of the top potential free agent PG's that I think the Rockets should look at.

    1. Mark Jackson - He is 2nd all time in assists. He is not a good scoring threat nor is he great in the full court game however he is very good at running a half court offense. He is one of the best guards at backing down opponets in the post.

    2. Anthony Carter - He is horrible at offense and not a shooter by any means. He is a very good defensive player though and most importantly he is very good at taking care of the basketball.

    3. Mateen Cleaves - He has good size for a PG and has great passing skills. His jump shot though is rather weak. He is a great person just to have in your locker room.

    4. Darrick Mason - He was never drafted in the NBA however he had a good career. He is a good scorer and has a good assist to turnover ratio. He has played for the Wolves, Grizzlies, Nuggets, Clippers, Kings, and Mavericks.

What players do you think Houston should look at adding(via Free Agency) and why?

Mark Jackson or Mateen Cleaves are probably your best bets. If you are looking for a long-term backup, i'd go for Cleaves. If you are going for a temporary backup, i'd go for Jackson.

Whats worng with Jamal Wilks yeah he is undersized but he is a solid point. but if you do get a new backup point. I think I would go for Mark Jackson. He is a guy that will know how to get Yao Ming the ball in easy position to score. He played with excellent low post players in the past like Patrick Ewing, Rik Smits. Plus you already have patrick Ewing working with Yao maybe Mark Jackson can get involved. So him & Yoa can build some point guard/bigman unity. Playing with a pass first point guard like Mark, Yoa will start to meet his full skill level. Plus bringing in Mark Jackson would allow Francis to play a little bit of 2guard. The position he really should be playing.

Anthony Carter is another good choice. A veteran point who can defend. He would probably fit in better with your defensive system than Mark Jackson. but he cant run a team anywhere close to the level of Jackson. And A point guard that can run a team is really what you need.

I dont see how mateen Cleeves would benefit your team. So he shouldnt even be in consideration.

Mark Jackson would be my choice, with AC second. But I havn't heard anything about Hardaway, would any Rockets fans like to see him in Houston?

I thought Hardaway had officially retired.

I like everyone else think Mark Jackson would be the perfect fit for Houston. He is a pass first PG who knows how to run a team in the half court set. His conditioning might be a problem however he would only play around 15 minutes a night at the most. Jeff Van Gundy likes to play both Mobley and Francis a lot.

Why we haven't signed Jackson already is a mystery to me. But, Mike Wilks looked pretty good against Philly. He will do.

Mark Jackson would probably fit well with us. Mateen Cleaves is not a good choice. I think he is even worse than Wilks.

I still can't fiqure out why Mark Jackson is still without a team.He would be the prefect back-up point guard

    My guess is

The Rockets will wait for the Knicks to release either Charlie Ward or Howard Eisley (buy-out) and sign one of those.

Mike Wilks isn't that bad. He was a fan favorite last year for the Wolves, and he was solid and a good ball handler. The only thing he can't do is make a jump shot, which is why the Wolves let him go. But just try him out, he won't be as bad as you think.

Wilks is more of a uptempo point guard, maybe a Steve Francis with a worse jump shot and weak body. I would rather prefer the Rockets to get a calmer point guard who is also a good shooter to slow things down and provide a change of pace when Francis sits. I don't even understand why the Rockets signed him to a two year contract.

I like everyone else think that Mark Jackson should be picked up by the rockets.

Plus i dont like Mateen Cleaves from his days at MSU.

On a side note- I wouldn't mind the former heisman trophy winner at FSU playing in a rockets uni

Here are some people Dexter didn't list that I would consider.

Jason Gardner- Undersized but I think he would do a good job.
Tierre Brown- I thought he would make the Raptors but they cut him.
    Carl English- Deserves another chance.
Smush Parker- Great Talent and good size. Currently playing in Europe.
Marcus Hatten- Good Athlete and a young player.
Dana Barros- Said He would return to the NBA a week ago. Good outside Shot.

What happened to Tito Maddox, is he still there? He can't shoot tho, and it seems all the rocket guards can at least shoot.

My nominee would be Terrell Mcintyre. He's a lefty, a better version of Moochie in my opinion, but terribly undersized at 5'9''. He was great at Clemson, ending up being 2nd in Clemson's all-time scoring. He can score (and shoot) with the best of them. He played great at the NBDL last year too.

I just think that Wilks is gonna be a big man someday and that it seems a right decision to get Norris away

    Charlie Ward?

KHTV just reported that the Rockets have serious interest in him, and that he is a JVG favorite. It also said they would love to talk to him once he clears the 48-hour waiver wire. I think this makes sense, as he is a veteran, team player who shoots 40% on 3s and hustles defensively. I'd love to see him as the backup, if not Mark Jackson.

I think this makes more sense, as he's a great team player and good 3-point shooter. Plus he knows JVG's system, and his contract comes off the books this year, I think.

I heard that he said he would rather play for the spurs, who are also really interested. but if you guys can get him he would be an excellent pickup for your squad.

Maybe he would come to Houston looking for a JVG reunion.
