I say MJ too, without a doubt. Dr. J was a trailblazer, but MJ took the torch and ran with it.

**This should have been a poll!

Both of them were good dunkers to me. I say it's a tie

Well, they were both great, there's no question there. Dr. J was more creative, since he pioneered so many dunks. But I gotta give it to Jordan. He did stuff in the air, whereas Dr. J usually just did amazing leaps. So its a debate between jumping and floating, and so I'd give it to MJ. Of course, I'm a bit biased, so that may account for my choice as well.

They are both great dunkers but its MJ.I've seen him do some unbeliveble dunks.Maybe its because I'm too young, so i didnt see Julius dunk but i still think its MJ all the way.

i have to go with Dr. J. No knock on MJ he did some spectacular stuff but DR. J did stuff back when it was not common to be "above the rim". Both are excellent so u can't go wrong either way.

Am I the only one who realizes that this is like comparing apples and oranges?

LoL you're not the only one. There's no point in discussing who was. This is just like comparing Wilt and Shaq; they're from 2 different eras.

Your assesment of this question is, once again, right on point. They played different positions, different styles, different era. Dr J. made the dunk cool. MJ made impossible hang time dunks look effortless.

It would be a close discussion, but I would say MJ just by a little. I'm feeling LeBron James will be added to the best dunkers.

I watched the McDonalds Dunk contest LeBron was in during high school and man, dude's got hops. I wish he didn't have a bum ankle so we could see him in this years dunk contest.

well, without Connie Hawkins there probably would be no Dr. J or Mike...Hawk took the game truly above the rim...more so than Elgin Baylor, the resident flyer of the time. Hawk was the precursor to the acrobatic dunks and moves in the air. He was the originator of the above the rim game.

Oh...and for the record..I think 'Nique is the greatest dunker ever.

Like comparing Wilt and Shaq? I don't think so. You can't say that guys were from completely different eras when they went head to head in the league for several years. Besides that, this thread is on dunking ability, not playing ability. Based on dunks alone, you could just as easily compare Elgin Baylor to Jason Richardson.

    Mj, Mj, Mj

Y'all are right, Dr. J was the original but no one with the exception of maybe 'Nique ever took the dunk to the height that MJ took it. That boy would dunk over people under people around people and through people [IMG] . And we aint talkin about cats his size neither we are talking about seven footers with regularity [IMG]. Two people, three people, it didn't matter and these weren't stiffs man, these were athletic, big, strong centers. Now granted, all 'Nique did was dunk[IMG] , so he probably was more feared for it, so you gotta give props to him for doin it as often as he did (like top 50 player props!!! [IMG] ). By the way, did all you fools forget about Vince [IMG] , I mean all he does is shoot three's and dunk and scores in bunches, that's gotta be hard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
