[imgl]http://www.eurobasket.com/photos/Chiriaev_Ivan.jpg[/imgl]2.Ivan Chiriaev, SF, 7-1, St. Thomas Aquinas HS (Oakville, Ontario). He's only 19 but is as good a shooter as there will be in the draft. At his size, he's likely to go in the lottery.

Oh man, not more of this guy. I have seen him play and he is the biggest project ever. I think that GM's will think twice about taking him after seeing how poorly Darko has progressed. And this guy is no where near Darko.

There is absolutely NO way he is the best shooter in the draft.

Darko really hasn't gotten a chance to play, and I thought we've all been through discussing about him this season.. He is a long term project and hasn't been given any opertunity to do anything, this kind of year was expected from him. He hasn't played "poorly" because he hasn't been able to do anything yet. I'm not one of the supporters of them drafting Darko in the first place, but I would wait a season or two to judge him.

But the point is, is that this guy is waayyyyyyyyy worse than Darko, I don't see him as an NBA prospect but then again I'm just some 19yr old sitting at my computer.

He talks a lot that's for sure. But he's only averaging 16/10/8 against guys that he's way taller. His assists are great but you have to score and rebound more than that if you're a 7'1 player.

Those averages are made up, he hardly played in any games and when he did he did not average anything nearly that good.

He didn't play in the game because he supposedly he couldn't get all his papers to get into the US together in time. A lot of people in this area think that is just an excuse and that his agent didn't want Ivans weaknesses getting exposed against actual players. There is an all-star coming up in Canada that has all the best players from across the country and he is supposed to play in that.

Maybe instead of him going 10 to 15 he should go more like 20 to 30

Exactly. Passport problems(the official 'cause')? What, did he not have a poass port from russia OR canada? no ID?. He coulda still went to play, and it would ajust taken a bit longer for him to get across the border.

ah well. I can't wait to see his face when he gets picked inthe 5th round. wait. There is no fifth round. Oh well. Atleast hes trying for his family.

Well in this case, his agent is doing one hell of a great job making him known. I mean, scouts and NBA coaches are always giving them a call.

This guy is too cocky and inexperienced to be much of a great player. There is no way he can be compared to Dirk Nowitzki. 16 points may look very low to you, but what I knew was that he averaged even less, 12 at the max, against guards that are somtimes 1 1/2 feet shorter than him. The NBA needs big men so I think that the team that drafts him (most likely a Eastern Conference team) will look to play him in the post, where his passing skills won't really amount to much.

This guy sucks. I don't know how much I can stress that to everyone. I can't even see him in the NBA at all.

^ just saw the game....cheriev played alright.....i can see some potential in him with his offensive game. he did however, rush a few shots and i still dont think he can play the point. just doesnt have the speed....probably an nba SF/SG.

he also picked up too many silly fouls.....

that was a good game overall. oliver prince and tristian blackwood were sensational. also that other big guy on the white team. forgot his name.

I wasn't impressed, this guy better not go first round. He's not quick enough to even play the 3 from what I saw, and this guy wanting to play the point just seems like a joke to me after that. He can't play the 2 either, he's not as quick as Dirk, not to talk of being as quick as someone like Bender.
His handles I can't talk about since he hardly ever put the ball on the floor, but the few times he did, it was nothing impressive, didn't look as good as Nene's even.

Took wayyyy too many three's, and he better be going second round or someone is screwing up.
His defense shouldn't even be talked about since all he did was hack and hardly move, he can't run the floor, and he could hardly even jump off the ground.
No atheleticism on this guy, no quickness, speed, or jumping ability that is above any other player there, it wasn't above average at all. He wasn't the best man on the floor for sure, and these guys are no super players, and he was always the last man to make it down the court.
Chiriaev also could not seem to ever shake his man, this guy is supposed to be a scorer and can't get space from his defender, it was just bad.

He also seemed very lazy, and this guy just spells bust, doesn't even seem to have as much hope as Skeeta.

yeah i kinda agree. against other nba players he wouldnt be able to just simply shoot over ppl.

he hasa nice touch but all u need to do is close out on him and hes got no moves. only move he had was pump fake and then one dribble and shoot.

his post moves seem fundamentally strong but he doesnt make his moves quick enough and he doesnt jump enough in the post.

he certainly wont be dirk-like. he will probably just be a standstill 3-point shooter.

They had the MVP award engraved to him before the game, that's why he won it.
