Who is basketball's biggest dumbass? Chris Kaman, Stromile Swift, or the old Chris Webber? or... I know a few more but I can't think of their names at the moment.

I'd have to say Olden Polynice. Arrested for trying to impersonate a cop.

Haha I meant this topic to be about players who make really poor decisions on the basketball court like calling a timeout with no timeouts left or being out of position constantly because you don't understand the plays. But if its about what players do off the court or not related to the game: It'll probably be Jayson Williams, Jason "Jay" Williams, and Jason Williams. The gun accident, the contract prohibiting motorbike riding motorbike accident, and the Nike "I'm a whiteboy rapper" commercial accident.

Seriously, the guy's from West Virginia, talks like he's a redneck, country bumpkin and thinks he can rap. I guess that's why they call him "white choclate". At least he ended that and the rest of his silliness when he got traded to Vancouver/Memphis.

Olden Polynice was not arrested once for impersonating a cop. He was arrested TWICE for impersonating a cop! Wow good find Shapecity!

Based on CustodianRules criteria I would have to throw Kwame Brown's name into the mix. He has no court awareness and looks lost on the court half the time. He's terrible moving without the ball, and he often knocks balls out of bounds fighting a teammate for a rebound.

How about Cuttino Mobley. That guy was stupid enough to foul Kobe beyond the 3 point arc with 2 seconds left before the halftime buzzer.

Stephen Jackson & Jason Terry for not waking up and missing the team plane when the time was adjusted.

Anthony Carter for not making sure his agent filed his paperwork to cash in on the contract he had.

Chris Webber when he called a timeout even after his coach informed him there were no timeouts left leading to a turnover, a technical free throw, and the game winning posession by the other team.

Anyone who shots a 3 at the end of the game when the score is either tied or the team is losing by only 1. Stupid, simply the stupidiest play, ever.

Depends on the circumstances Phil. Like does your team absolutely have the last posession, is it a clean look and how much time is left on the clock? What defense is the other team showing? Most likely it will be zone to prevent isolations. Like for instance, If the game was tied or my team was down by one with 5 seconds left and I received a pass behind the arc. I'd shoot it. If I picked it up to dribble in closer or drive, then the defense would have rotated on my ass by then making it a lot harder to score or the clock would have expired. The wide open look is a much better option if you can hit it.

Why are you even standing at the arc, that's my point. You are supposed to have a little court awareness. Obviously you want to get open, but how many times have you seen the wide open look be a 3 with no one within 10 feet of the guy because his man went to double the guy with the ball? If the player was smarter, he would have stepped in about 4-5 feet, thereby increasing the shooting percentage, anticipating he would get the ball.

Dude have you ever played real organized basketball before? I'm talking about college or some amateur league or better, not a pickup game. Now imagine that the NBA, the best of the best, has man-to-man defenders on crack! So imagine if you get everyone to stand 4 or 5 feet in front of the arc, the entire floor will get crowded really fast, especially because nba basketball players occupy more space and cover more ground in one step than normal people who aren't as big or as fast. So that's why I'd stay behind the 3 point arc so you can help spread the floor better and make it clear for the ballhandler and your teammates to maneuver. If you receive the ball behind the arc and pick up the ball to move 4 or 5 feet in with little time left, you've lost a clean look. I'll tell you why. You lose time when you have to dribble the ball in, then set your feet and then square up to the basket. Unless you're extremly quick and a great shot off the dribble, it's hard to make those shots. Not to mention, the closest guy, who let's say is 10 feet away, will come out to contest your shot if they see you moving in. They can easily cover the same distance as you taking the ball in and meet you at the spot you're shooting from. Having a outstretched 6'6" guard with long arms lunging at your shooting hand side or a shotblocking forward doing the same would psyche you out enough to miss or force you to adjust especially because now you got 1 second left and you've stopped your dribble. There's no time for pump fakes, passes, and you can't double dribble. Ultimately, you've lost a cleaner look than if you drained one from downtown. I mean you just can't count on lazy defenders playing off you so that you can take the ball in and shoot an uncontested 20 footer. It just doesn't happen. You just have to punish them by draining one without thinking about it. There are times when I wish Calbert Cheaney, who is a poor 3 point shooter, would have shot the 3 ball rather than take it in to the 20' mark and miss because he had a man in his face giving him a little body bump in midair. Refs never call contact fouls in the final seconds. That's why if I was ever coach, I'd make sure he wouldn't be on the floor in a game winning situation if I couldn't count on him to hit a wide open tre. It'd be Damp(for a game winning putback or a little pick and roll), Cliff, Cardinal (or Dunleavy), Richardson, NVE(or claxton). 4 of the 5 guys can hang out on the arc, spreading the floor really nicely and NVE or Claxton could collapse the zone or whatever defense the opposing team is showing and dish out to an open guy who can nail the perimeter shot. Of course hopefully there would be a timeout before the play so everyone knows where they should be on the floor.
