    Dude,

Reread my post. I never said everyone should stand inside the arc. What I said was have some court awareness. That's the stupidity analysis. This has nothing to do with athleticism, how large NBA players are, or what you do with the ball after you catch it. It does not matter whether you are playing the NBA or high school ball, if your man moves 5 feet in, you move five/four/three feet whatever in. Don't just stand there like an idiot, then jack up a 3 when your man is nowhere to be found.

BTW, if you really care, no I never played college or NBA ball, but I did play in the best SF Open rec league at one time against guys like "Hook" Mitchell.

And dude did you ever read mine? It totally depends on the situation and what defense the other team is showing, the floor spacing, the play being called and how much time is left! As far as awareness goes, you slash, run, stand where the coach tells you to be so your point guard knows where to look for you and so that he can have room to create. Let's just say for the sake of argument the time left is 2 seconds by the time you receive the ball (5 maybe too much for the example I gave). You are already standing 4 or 5 feet within the arc and you have a clean shot. That's good if its clean! A lot of time it isn't and you don't want to think about it with such little time left anyway. A lot of guys who dribble in with such little time left, usually think about it and they miss, especially when they see the defense moving in on them. You better have a lot of concentration then. What I'm saying is even if your defender has a real good reason to leave you, you shouldn't help clog up the middle at the 20 foot mark or start dribbling in little time left. At least if you're further back from any defenders you can receive passes better without it being intercepted or being caught up in the mix. Then if you move after you receive the ball you may not have a good look because you still have to set your feet and get off a shot in time or you just may plain run out of time. (not many players are very good shots off the dribble, but are good spot shooters) I mean at first you're saying why am I standing behind the arc to receive the pass and then you're saying when I receive the pass behind the arc why don't I start dribbling in. We'll I've already explained why you should in order to space the floor and why you shouldn't dribble in with little time left. I mean when there's that many bodies on the floor, floor spacing is everything. That's why non shooting teams usually suck, they have to run a lot just to score. I mean on the last posession you better have guys that can punish those who leave them unguarded behind the 3 point line because that's the only way at times you can get a clean look without a defender on you in time to beat the clock.

Also don't forget the game your watching is totally different from the point guards perspective who sees a buncha big bodies covering the middle. If there's a lone jersey that catches the corner of my eye that I can pass to without the ball getting intercepted, I'm going to that lone guy.

    Lets forget this.

The original point is do not hoist a 3 at the end of the game with the clock running down when a 2 will win the game. Easy fundamental point.

This has nothing to do with dribbling, creating off the dribble.

If your man has left you and you can get off a 18 footer instead of a 23 footer, you are an idiot to not be 18 feet in when the pass comes because you have obviously been standing there not thinking.

Then there must be a huge amount of idiots in the nba by your definition. Jrich must ben an idiot, NVE must be an idiot, Cliff Robinson must be an idiot. I guess most of the Golden State Warriors are idiots. If you're all alone on the 18 foot mark, you won't be for very long with zone defense, unless the other team really sucks. Everything midrange is usually denied when its a close game like that unless you get a good screen from a teammate or you happen to be Michael Redd or Kobe Bryant. I'm telling you zone kills everything, you can't isolate inside and its hard to get off a good two. If someone moves off to double team someone else and if their zone is good they'll rotate on you and block/contest your shot if you're that close in (very rarely will 18 feet be uncontested unless the entire zone is collapsed and nobody communicates). Now if the defense is lazy and there's time to move in, yeah take the shot closer in if you have time to create or stand at the 18 foot mark if nobody plans to guard you there. But I'm telling you most of the times when games are close like that, with 1 or 2 seconds left, really good defensive teams will already be on you and the help defense will be aware and deny any shots closer in. A good 3 is better than a bad 2. Like I said you're totally ignoring the circumstances and the game situation! The team knows you need a two, they'll zone up and leave very little space inside, but the outside shot is what they want you take. Now if you're wide open, you should be able to hit it just like shooting practice. Make them pay for leaving you wide open. That's what Jrich did against the Twolves. He had no time left, NVE had no set plays to work with other than trying to create and fake a midrange floater. Jrich just got the hell out of his way and set up along the 3 point arc and just drilled it when NVE dished off to him. I'm going to defend Jrich because he's not an idiot for having stood there, even though the 3 point shot really wasn't there this year, he was determined to hit it and win the game.

Hey PhilSmith75 did you ever play in the Corre (spelling) Camino tournament? I played on the same team as Hook in that tournament. We also had Walyi and Terrell Owens played one game with us.

Nope. Sorry. Admittedly, our team was not at the top of the league. In fact, it got so bad, our mantra became "AE", avoid embarassment.

What did you think of Hook's game? I thought he was an awesome dunker, I will never forget a tomahawk dunk from the baseline, but I was not impressed with his game, he may have been bored, but he did not make anyone else better.

he had a good athletic game, and i thought he was great...but yeah he's not very impressive compared to all of the NBA guys

He's an amazing player, with some of the longest arms I've ever seen. If he could have stayed away from the drugs, I think he would be playing pro ball, maybe not the NBA, but NBDL or CBA without a doubt.

This is a late post, but the new king of dumb is Eddie Griffin. Driving while masturbating and then getting into an accident with a parked car. After crashing, he then tried to bribe his way out of getting the police involved. The conversation with the car owner was all caught on security camera inside a store.

The other dumb thing was he shot at his wife or girlfriend or something.

Darius Miles for doing that "double fist bump" aginst his forehead every time he makes a shot.

Stephen Jackson for trying to "raise up" in that Pacers Pistons brawl, acting like he was in the ghetto in a street brawl on national television, like "what dawg, raise up, raise up dawg." That was an embarrasment to the game and the ghetto.

Eric Dampier for his "deer in the headlights" apathy.

Adonal Foyle for throwing a full-court, one-handed baseball pass -- like a shot putter -- 14 rows into the stands.

Derek Fisher for intentionally fouling in a 1 point game with 30+ seconds to go.

Drew Gooden for bricking wrong-handed layups and playing "shimmy-shake" with the ballboy during warm ups. Plus he looks like he's perpetually stoned.

AlleyOop, no more post padding please. You don't need to make 6 separate posts when you could've put every one of those ideas in one. Since you didn't do it, I did it for you.

Gee thanks Moo2K4. I'm so bummed you caught me trying to "pad" my posts. I was really chalking up some serious stats there.
