how would they get players other than through free agency and the draft? im not very certain on how the expansion draft works. can some1 clarify for me?
Every team in the league can protect 8 of their contracted players and restricted free agents. If you don't have up to 8 contracted and restricted FA's, you ahve to leave at least one player unprotected. The Bobcats have to pick 14 players and can pick a maximum of 29 players, one from each team. Charlotte can draft restricted FA's in the expansion draft making them unristricted FA's with no obligation to the Bobcats, but then this summer they can't be re-signed by the team the Bobcats drafted them from. Teams can make deals with the Bobcats where they give them about 3 million and a draft pick to take a guy in the expansion draft. The Bobcats have about a 30 million dollar salary, but they can waive any player they get in the expansion draft without it affecting their cap. The player basically just gets their contract waived and becomes a FA. They also have the 4th pick in the draft.
can other teams draft players that are one of the 8 unprotected players from other teams or only charlotte?
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Kenny:</div><div class="quote_post">Why Bobcats? Can't they come up with a better name?</div> well a guy names Bob owns the team so he wanted to make it called the Bobcats. they probably COULD have came up with something better but Bob wanted himself in his name
Boy where the hell have I been? <div class="quote_poster">Quoting harry_balls5:</div><div class="quote_post">well a guy names Bob owns the team so he wanted to make it called the Bobcats. they probably COULD have came up with something better but Bob wanted himself in his name</div> I did not know this. I find this information amusing.
It almost became the Charlotte "Dragons" when they were deciding a name, but surprisingly, "Bobcats" made it.

There was a voting between different names and the bobcats won.
