I am extremely surprised they didn't take Troy Bell. I would have thought he'd have easily been one of the top people they'd take. He's a great young and talented point guard. But, apparently they didn't really care so they passed him up. Still can't believe it after looking at the list.

I don't understand. Theron Smith over Troy Bell? I thought Bell would be a sure selection for the Bobcats. I guess they see something in Smith. Bickerstaff called him the "sleeper" of the draft. Then again, maybe Memphis paid Charlotte not to select Bell.

No Qyntel Woods? Well maybe his character didn't appeal to them...

Quote:

I watched Bobcat's Expansion Draft, and some of the players they chose are so crap. Lonny Baxter and Jahidi White? They have size and strength, but did Bickerstaff ever bother to see their GAME?

Bickerstaff coached White in Washington, so I'm sure he's seen his GAME. Don't expect them to keep either of them anyways. They will either waive or trade White. They only selected White because of a trade with the Phoenix Suns. In return for selecting White, Phoenix will give Charlotte $3 million and a future first-round pick.

Keepers
G/F Gerald Wallace - Huge upside, but never got a chance in Sacramento. Could be a likely candidate for most improved player. Will get a chance to start for the Bobcats.

SF Jason Kapono - Great shooter who comes cheap.

SF Theron Smith - The Bobcats like him. Bickerstaff called him the "sleeper."

PF Brandon Hunter - Undersized, but worth the gamble.

C Primoz Brezec - The Pacers seem really upset they lost him. He's young, talented and could contribute.

F/C Jamal Sampson - Another good selection. The Lakers didn't want to lose him. Good size, very long, could contribute.

G/F Tamar Slay - Free agent but will definitely sign with Charlotte so he can get increased playing time. The Bobcats really like him.

Not Sure
C Peja Drobnjak - The Bobcats like him, but I'm sure they'll look to work a deal out for him to another team with lots of cap room. If not, he'll be on their roster next season.

PG Richie Frahm - Good shooter who has drawn interest from the Bobcats. However, he is an unrestricted free agent and other teams might be interested.

PF Marcus Fizer - I heard he wants to play for the Bobcats, but he may be too high priced for them. Plus with the abundance of big men selected in this draft, they could pass on Fizer.

Gone in 60 Seconds
G/F Sasha Pavlovic - Already traded to the Cavaliers for a future first-round pick. Bobcats are surely getting many future first-rounders...

C Jahidi White - Likely traded or waived.

C Zaza Pachulia - Bickerstaff indicated that the Bobcats will move Pachulia to another team soon.

The rest of the picks are all unrestricted free agents (Bremer, Trepagnier, Baxter, Woods, Carter and Ferguson) and likely will sign else where or won't make the roster. Overall, it wasn't a bad expansion draft. It's what was expected.

Why is no one talking bout Richie Frahm? He scored 30 in a game, as a rookie not to bad. This guy can shoot the ball. He'll be a contributor. And I think Fizer will play a lot better in a different scene.

He's not a PG, he's a SG, and I'm hoping the Raptors can sign him as a backup in the market.

He's not bad though, and doesn't his contract expire next season?

But still he is overpaid at $6.2 million, and when you put into consideration that if he does make the roster he will hardly ever play since there are other players the Bobcats hold in higher esteem like Drobnjak, Hunter, Sampson, and Brezec. Then they'll either get Okafor or Howard in the draft. No place for Jahidi. I really don't see how Phoenix convinced Charlotte to take his contract.

Of the six players I listed as keepers (excluding Slay), the total cap comes to just $5.4 million. If they keep Drobnjak, make that $8 million. If they keep White, it becomes $11.2 million (reduced since Phoenix paid Charlotte an additional $3 million) leaving the Bobcats only $18 million in cap space. They will have their draft picks to sign and I'm sure they will be looking to the free agent market and they will be pressing tight against the cap. They don't want to do that. They want to play more under the cap. So it's in their best interest to get rid of White's contract.

About the future first-rounder Charlotte gets for taking White, that is probably the one Cleveland owes Phoenix. That pick is lottery protected, so Phoenix won't get it until the Cavs make the playoffs.

Exactly right, but I really do believe that Frahm will be on the team by the start of the season. He's a great young talent and with some work could become a big part of all contributions. He is an excellent shooter, always needed.

I agree, I was surprised as hell when I found out he wasn't selected. Dixon is a good scorer and I really thought he could have a decent season if he got out of playing behind Stackhouse and Arenas.. I know a lot about the NBA, but even I didn't know 4-5 of these guys.. I'm surprised they didn't take more guys like Dixon because they're still on their rookie deals and they don't even cost that much. Hopefully this turns out good for the Bobcats, but it just wasn't what I expected.

I've always been a big Dixon fan myself. He's always been fast and an awesome scorer. Kobe 8 Ball told me why he wasn't being used so well, he doesn't fit in with the coaching of the Wizards. I'd be glad to have him on any other team even as a guy on the bench again. He's a good spark and works real hard. I'd love for him to be on the Bobcats since he's got great scoring ability. Sadly he's off to rot on the bench.

They need to get a good PG now, they should have drafted Dixon and Bell for sure.

Any ideas about a PG they should go after now?

Well Bickerstaff wants to acquire another first-round pick in the draft tomorrow (late-lottery or mid-first-round) so they can draft Jameer Nelson. Bickerstaff really likes Nelson. I wouldn't be surprised if they are able to pull it off.

They could also make an offer to restricted free agent Jamal Crawford. Maybe offer him $5.5 million to $6 million and chances are Chicago wouldn't match. Crawford would like a change of scenery, but I wonder if he'd want to play for Charlotte...

Meh, I'm sure he wouldn't mind.

If they acquire Nelson, that would be sweet then maybe the starting five could be like this(not sayin it SHOULD but its a possibility):

C-Drobnjak/Brezec/Sampson
PF- Either Dwight or Emeka (depends on who they pick)/Hunter/White
SF- Jason Kapono/Theron Smith
SG- Gerald Wallace/???
PG- Jameer Nelson/???

just a thought.
