star guard Steve Nash was greeted here Thursday afternoon by the most decorated group of free-agent lobbyists the Phoenix Suns could assemble.

A traveling party headed by Suns chairman Jerry Colangelo, son and team president Bryan Colangelo and new owner Robert Sarver flew into town at lunch time to make their recruiting pitch to Nash. Also joining the group was Suns franchise forward Amare Stoudemire.

The Mavericks -- who are said to be preparing a four-year offer to Nash as opposed to a six-year maximum for a player his age -- are aware that Phoenix has made reacquiring Nash a top priority. The Suns originally drafted the Canadian point guard in 1996 and, according to league sources, have targeted Nash on the assumption that Kobe Bryant -- the prize catch on the market -- will reject their best offer and stay in Southern California.

If the Suns offer Nash a five- or six-year deal, the 30-year-old could be swayed back to the desert, in spite of his stated desire to "spend the rest of my career" playing alongside teammate and close friend Dirk Nowitzki.

Just for the record, the Phoenix Execs flew to Dallas, and they certainly will
make a strong push for Nash. I read that Phoenix was $16.4M below the cap
(Dallas Morning News figure). Is Phoenix willing to give the majority of that
money to Nash? What other needs do they have?

they're looking at throwing 5+ mill Okur's way it seems, so Nash may get the bulk of it.

we'd also like to re-sign McDyess at the veterans minimum, but that may be if we don't get Okur. Brent Barry possibly. Dampier would be nice but nobody's holding their breath. If we get Dampier then it'd be rough to sign both he and Nash.

Well congrats to Phoenix! Ya'll will Love Nash. I was shocked that he
didn't resign with Dallas, but he always hinted at a lack of respect for Cuban.
He is not your typical athlete. I hope he plays great for years to come.

The suns just need to get a decent center now to really compete. But after the big signing of nash they dont really have much cash left do they?

They still have enough for 1 or 2 role-players, but not for anothe big name guy. Hopefully they can take that same team of negotiators to some big men like Okur or Dampier, and convince them to sign for less now that they got Nash.
