As a lakers fan i don't like this trade, but we had to trade shaq and this isn't that bad of a deal but we get two small fowards who can start? Odom can't play power Foward in the West.

This is our lineup as of right now:

    PG- Payton
    SG- hopefully Kobe
    SF- Odom/Butler/George
    Pf-Grant/Malone?
    C-....

Butler and a 1st rounder? wow, i'm satisfied....now lets see if we can turn around and make another deal for a legit big man (a shot blocker preferably)

Do you think Dampier is a possibility? I heard they might sign Divac, I do not want him in L.A. at all...

I doubt Dampier is an option...I was thinking they could turn around and deal odom to GS for dampier (via sign and trade) but that really wouldn't make sense for the Warriors (they got Murphy, Dunleavy, etc etc)

Lakers don't really have anyone else they can trade for a player of Dampier's caliber...

I would love to have Vlade back...rememeber, he was originally a Laker...just like how most of us learned to root for Malone, we can be retrained to root for Vlade...you're not cheering for the man, you're cheering for the jersey

That is a good point on Vlade, he still has skill and he is an excellent passer but I dont know if he is still starter material...I am kind of disappointed with this trade that the Lakers didnt push for Jermaine O'neal... we saw Odom play in L.A. once before, and he was very incosistent and had weed problems, along with injuries...

The one bright thing about this is Caron Butler...a future star IMO, he might of had an off year but he was injured and when he was healthy he took backseat to Odom and Wade..I cant wait to see this kid produce as a Laker.

Definitely..I'm thrilled to have Butler in L.A. If the Lakers can re-sign Kobe, they are going to have a great perimeter defensive team (GP-Kobe-Butler)...all they need is some interior...I think Grant can be an excellent PF (his natural position), but not at Center...

With Odom, Grant, Malone (?), and Cook, Lakers have absolutely no shot blocking...also, they don't have anyone with a back-to-the-basket game...

I am hoping Cook can learn and mature nicely to one day become the starting PF...hehas some range on his shot, just needs to be more consistent...I am trying to think of big men we can make a run at to get someone who can block shots and also produce on offense...Etan Thomas maybe.? I seriously doubt it..just a random guess.

EDIT: Scratch Etan, I forgot he was like 6'9 way too small for C in the west.

Plus, I believe he is headed for Milwaukee anyway.

LOL. I'd find it funny if the Lakers get their hands on Divac. Then, the past 14 years, Lakers onlyed used two starting Centers, Divac and Shaq.

Really though, I don't really know what to think. Not seeing Shaq in a Lakers jersey is like seeing Jeter in another jersey except the Yankees.

I think the Lakers just need to rebuild a little. First resign Kobe, he`ll comeback because Shaq and Jackson will be gone, and Tomjanavich is in. Than yeh, go after Dampier or Divac, or both! Than see if you can get some good trades to go down.

Im happy Shaqs going to Miami. ITs better for him. I cant wait to see Shaq and his Heat dismantle Kobe and the Lakers. It would be really funny if Kobe doesnt resign with the Lakers. [IMG]

Wade and Shaq are going to be phenomenal I can see it now... although i dont like the idea of dismantling the strong nucleus. We can win a championship, and hpefully get past the pistons.

Put it this way... Our avg. age is about 26 now... We are much quicker, and versatile... Also, I hear Kupchack is asking for one more player... I think it would be alright how it is right now. Think of this:

    - Kobe re-signs on Wed
    - Malone feels 100% and comesback for the MLE
    - Sounds like Fisher wants back, re-signed
    - Add a Keon Clark/Vlade Divac/Michael Doleac for the vet min.

Team depth and our athleticism just went way up...

    PF: Malone/Grant/Odom/Cook
    F : Odom/Butler/George/Walton
    C : Grant/Vlade or Clark or Doleac
    G : Kobe/Rush/Vujacic
    PG: Payton/Fisher/Kobe

    The team looks pretty good.

I agree with Superman about the Lakers being a good, deep team next year, but that's contingent on one thing- the Lakers signing a good big man off the free agent market. Keon Clark would be good.

How can you sign Malone, Fisher and Clark when you only have one MLE?

^^^ Exactly what I was wondering.

    -Kobe probably wil resign
    - I dont thikn Malone will come back even if he is healthy.
-Fisher is going to Houstoun most likely.
    - Getting an even older center? Just what the Lakers need.
