The much talked-about blockbuster trade between the Lakers and Heat involving the NBA's most dominant force has become all but a reality.

"I can confirm that all the parties have agreed to the deal," O'Neal's agent, Perry Rogers, told the Washington Post in a telephone interview Saturday night. "It's all pending [league] approval, but I can say everything has been agreed to."

League should approve this..I hate this deal soo much, Kobe should of done something...said he wouldnt resign if they didnt push for Wade...we now have 3 SFs who are capable of starting and no centers.

I hope we can make a run to do a sign and trade with DAmpier or something to that extent...I do not want to sign Floppy Divac to the Lakers...this leaves the question though..since Kobe didnt get what he wanted...Wade...will he resign or bolt to the other L.A. team?

This trade leaves holes at teh PF and C...Brian Grant is an undersized powerforward, Malone has hinted at retirement if Kobe n Shaq split, We have no C that can play on a daily basis in teh west...

I am interested to see the next move we make...right now I think we are headed for the lottery with this team in the west...

I think if the Warriors throw in Dunleavy, then I could see it happening...

but I'm not sure Damp for Odom straight up would work...

I believe the 60 day rule applies in the off season, but there's no reason they couldn't do a 3 team trade right now.

I'm surprised the Warriors haven't been mentioned in this deal seeing as how they were so prominently mentioned in all the Dallas/LA rumors a week or two ago. Actually, I'm afraid I already know the answer to that question and its because the Warriors may have worked out a deal with Memphis already, but that's a story for another board. Rest assured, I'd much rather have Odom on the Warriors than Swift and Battier.

As for including Dunleavy in the trade, no I don't see that happening. Dunleavy is one of Mullin's favorite players and while he might push Mike to the bench in favor of Odom, he's not about to trade him. And the Warriors know LA is overloaded at sf, so they aren't in a position of bargaining strength, and therefore cannot strong arm the Warriors into dealing Dunleavy.

The Lakers have no size if they make this trade... they might be headed to the lottery because of the recent trend in Western conference teams loading up talent- you have the Spurs, Wolves, and Kings who are basically locks for the top 3 spots, then you have Houston, Denver, Utah, Phoenix, and Dallas who all made changes and are probably better. This looks to be a tough season for the Lakers unless they make another deal.

No, I personally would be sick. Though they still would be alot better then the Lakers in the 93-94 season. But still no. I know we need size, but I'd rather have skills then Dampier. He doesn't rebound well for a big guy. Can't we get Keon Clark somehow? I'd rather have toothpick legs because he can protect the middle.

Well Dampier was #4 in rebounds per game (12.0), #1 in offensive rebounds per game, #1 in all other offensive rebound categories, #3 in field goal percentage, #11 in defensive rebounds. I don't know what you mean by "not rebounding well for a big guy". The problem has always been motivation and the fact the warriors would always shoot the ball before he has a chance to get set up or avoid passing him the ball in the low post. Damp has always been a solid post defender and shotblocker. I don't know why you would rate Keon above Dampier unless its simply for the money that Damp would command. Plus Damp would give you some of the best footwork on offense since very few centers can play with their back to the basket.

Oh and Damp was #3 in total rebounds (887 - only KG and Big Ben got more than he did). And he was in the Western Conference so he'd be #2 in the Western Conference. I think if the Lakes got a good pure point guard that can give him the ball he'll repeat his performance next season. So Odom for Dampier could be a fair trade depending on how you look at it.

I thought I'd jump on the dog pile as well...

Damp led the league in rebounds per 48 minutes at 17.7. Garnett was #2 with 16.9.

What non-Warrior fans don't realize is that Damp has always produced when he got consistent touches down low. It was when ball hogs like Arenas and Jamison didn't get him the ball that he lost his concentration. If he gets 8-10 touches a game on offense, he'll duplicate his stats from last year without question. Now he may turn the ball over on 1-2 of those touches and he may miss badly on another 2-3 touches, but trust me, the worse he does on offense, the harder he fights on defense.

There were times last year when I actually wanted him to miss a shot or two in the beginning of the game because it got him mad. Those were the games when he usually had a double double before half time. Now mind you, he was still third in the league in fg% at 53.5%, so he doesn't miss a whole lot of shots, but when he does it just means he works that much harder on his rebounding and shot blocking.

The only problem is that with Kobe on the team, will Damp get fed in the post 8-10 times a game?

I think you just got owned by half of the Warriors forum. [IMG] Yeah, Damp doesnt rebound well for a big man. That is why he averaged a double double last year, right?

I would be ecstatic if we could trade Damp for Odum! I think their salaries are similar too. I would love to see Odum start over Dunleavy. Odum could be the star of our team. He is a walking triple double. And if we apsolutely had to throw in Dunleavy, I would do it without a second thought. Think about it. Basically, the trade is Dunleavy for Odum. Damp is a FA, he is gone if we dont make a trade. I say pull the trigger.

STupid trade people. With nowade, its not gonna help us at all, AND were prob gonna lose kobe. This is going the wrong way. Brian Grant, odom and butler ... not at all what i was looking for. What about a DECENT guard now? Do we have any left? If payton and kobe go, who else is there besides kareem? DAMN! They cant do it ....

I fully expected this trade to be done. All that's needed now is league approval and that should happen within a day or so I'd think, it shouldn't take all that long. You know, I think I might actually be the only Laker fan here who likes this trade. For one, it gets Shaq out of the West. That's one thing I was really hoping for. Plus, we get two very good young players, and youth is something this team was lacking last year. Odom and Butler are two very good players who are only getting Butler. People knock Butler cause he lost a step last year, well, lets see you people get injured and not lose a step for a little bit. By the end of the season and in the playoffs, he looked like the Butler from his rookie season I think, or close to it. Odom finally came into his own last year and had good INJURY FREE year. That's the big thing. He wasn't hurt for the most part. Brian Grant, well, I don't know about him. He could probably handle the power forward spot if Malone ends up retiring, which I do believe he will. So, overall, I do like this trade. It adds youth and athleticism to the Lakers, and that's always helpful.

In all honesty, what more could we have gotten from any other team? Other GM's wouldn't be willing to part ways with their own star players, so we had to get the best we could, and it looks like Miami is it. Just like what Moo2K4 said, first and foremost, it gets Saq out of the Western Conference. At least we don't get to see that 360 pound monster creating punishment for our thin Laker frontcourt, and now we get something LA hasn't had in a while. Shooters. With Odom and Butler in our frontcourt, they provide just like what Moo said, athleticism and a proven jumpshot. I also understand Butler has been injured, but c'mon...everybody gets injured once in their NBA careers. Brian Grant? Well his legs are shot totally, and just wasn't the same player he used to be when he left Portland, but I do like rebounding machines, and if he attacks the rim consistently, he can provide a ton of second chance opportunities for our team. Now if the league can approve this trade, I sorta like this lineup:

    1. Payton?
    2. Bryant
    3. Butler
    4. Odom/Grant?
    5. Dampier?

Not bad....perhaps another 50+ win season and who knows how far we can go in the playoffs next year.

I wouldn't put Dampier in that lineup. Dampier being traded to the Lakers is very unlikely. Also, Payton will probably be gone.
