Most total wins in a season by an AFC team? The undefeated dolphins went 17-0 in a 14 game season. If the Steelers win it all, they would be 18-1. If the Patriots win out, they'd be 17-2.
I'd guess that you are also on the right track, but there are three NFC teams listed in the hint. And other teams have led the league in wins in a Super Bowl winning season... Hmmm.
Ill post it before Sunday's game for sure....I wanted someone to get it, but I wont let it go much farther....
its not obscure, thats for sure....it a fantastic team accomplishment that only 6 teams have achieved since the merger, 2 more have a chance this year.....
Ok, you guys have suffered enough....I am a bit disappointed that no one got it, other than BF1, and he and I talk about this sort of thing a lot so he had a huge advantage.... Anyway, if the Steelers or Patriots win the Super Bowl, they will do so while beating every opponent they had the oppurtunity to play....Pittsburgh lost to the Raven in week 2 and avenged that loss later in the season....NE lost to Pittsburgh and Miami, they beat the Dolphins early in the season and have a chance to avenge the Steelers loss on Sunday.... in reverese order now: 1991 Redskins were 14-2 with losses to the Cowboys and Eagles, division opponents they beat in the other games.... 1990 Giants were 13-3 with losses to the Eagles, 49ers and Bills....the beat the Eagles in the regular season, the 49ers in the NFC title game and the Bills in the Super Bowl.... 1982 Redskins were 8-1 with a loss to the Cowboys in the regular season, they avenged that loss in the NFC Title game.... 1976 Raiders were 13-1 with a loss to the Patriots, they avenged that loss in a divisional playoff game.... 1973 Dolphins were 12-2 with losses to the Raiders and Colts, they avenged the colts loss in the regular season and they beat the Radiers in the AFC Title game.... 1972 Dolphins were 14-0....they avenged the no losses by winning the Super Bowl and finishing off the only perfect season in the leagues history....
Ahh....I was researching. I was stuck on the 2 or less losses, but the Giants messed that up. I figured it had something to do with losses, since the Steelers could still do it if they lost. Nice stump.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (TheBeef)</div><div class='quotemain'>if i thought a lot of you were actively researching, I wouldnt have given the answer....</div> Not a big deal. I would have given up before I got to that answer.
So the Steelers lose and join the '68 Raiders as the only teams to beat every team they played and fail to win the Super Bowl....
I think its a positive thing for a young team with a lot of returning talent to look at the schedule and see they are good enough to beat everyone on there, even if they failed to get it done in the end....
