OMG, this trade is horrible now, I agree with the majority...y did they amend the trade for? I am pissed at Kupchak right now....unbelievable...

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Emo:</div><div class="quote_post">But everybody that's willing to bash Kupchak now that Banks isn't involved in this deal anymore is being ridiculously impatient. Who's to say Banks would be some spectacular starting point guard or sixth man in this league? I myself have never heard of Marcus Banks since the deal went down weeks ago, so in my opinion, they can have him back. </div>

Who's to say he wouldn't be a spectacular starting point guard. The talent was certainly there. I can tell u this, he was much more upside than Jumaine Jones..

In addition, u can bring up Vujacic, but he's a big guard. He will not be able to keep up with the Tony Parkers, Mike Bibbys, and Sam Cassells of the west. And I'm not one to make generalizations, but it is safe to say that Euros don't have a great reputation for being good defenders.

Banks is extremly quick. He has great hands and good solid defender (considering his age). Right now, the Lakers have the worst point guard depth in the NBA ...

[IMG]Worst. Offseason. Ever. Cept for resigning Kobe. Sucks that you guys lost on a trade just cuz GP didn't show up for his physical. I guess that GP thought if he can get back at the Lakers for feeling betrayed after being convinced to return, he would get back at them. The Celtics seem to be happy about Marcus Banks returning, as they never wanted to trade him in the first place.

Wait so I'm a little confused.. was this supposed to happen? or did Boston screw us? cause I was reading what happened off ESPN and I'm a little confused now..

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">A Celtics spokesman said Boston had agreed in advance to waive the requirement that Payton undergo a physical exam on Friday.
"The team waived his physical as part of the amended trade," Celtics spokesman Bill Bonsiewicz said. "It [the physical] obviously became moot as part of this deal."</div>

So if they agreed in advance that they were going to waive it, was this supposed to happen? Or were they supposed to waive it before the amended trade and just screwed us? As you can tell I'm VERY confused on this... can anyone clear it up for me?

The deal was contingent on all players involved to have a team physical taken by friday (today). Payton refused to take the physical, thus the trade could be voided. The teams had anticipated that this would happen, and agreed on an amended trade, where Boston wouldn't have to give us Banks if they waived the physical contingency, which they did...

Phreeze, basically there was a clause in the trade deal that said that all players had to report to a physical by a certain date, which in this case was Friday. Payton didn't show up, so the Lakers, instead of having the trade voided by the NBA, decided to amend the trade and take Jones instead of Banks. As another condition in the amended trade, Payton wasn't required to show up to take a physical by a certain date. Hope that cleared it up for you.

About the amended trade, I'm not really convinced that it was an entirely bad move until the offseason is over. I have a feeling that Kupchak is gathering chips on his table to make another move (hopefully for Kidd). At the same time, Vujacic immediately gets a lot more PT and hopefully that will help him develop his game faster. In Kupchak's position, I would have also accepted the amended trade, because having even Mihm, Atkins, and Jones is a lot more preferable to having Fox and Payton, simply because they get a decent big man in Mihm. I don't really blame him for accepting the Celtics' new trade, and neither do I blame Payton for bringing this new trade about (because he was the reason the trade got changed). The Lakers disrespected Payton by letting him sign a cheap contract and then trading him, and Payton returned the favor by not showing up to his physical. An eye for an eye.

Seems like Payton doesn't want to play for Boston neither so they lost too, unless they can work a trade to get him outta Boston. Link.

Personally,I side with Glove on this. The Lakers acted like they wanted him,he had faith that was the case and used his option then they turn around and trade him? Lakers get what they deserve in this case.

WOW, this is a huge blow to the lakers, why would the need jumaine jones they already have 4 sf. Now they are going to relly on who at pg? Is chucky atkins going to play 48 min. is Vujacic capable playing big minutes in the league right now? Stupid for the lakers to allow this to happen.

Maybe Kobe didn't think Marcus Banks could get him the ball [IMG]

Yeah I don't think this was a good move by Kupchak, but maybe he saw something we didn't in Jones. Banks was an up and coming great player, and Jumaine Jones is a player who has seen his best years pass him.

Thats exactly what I said to my friend after this happened. The Lakers were disloyal to GP so I am kind of glad he punished us for that. Although it might really screw us up for next season, I think it's a good lesson Kupchak needed to learn. This deal turned from a decent one to a bad one pretty fast.

Although everyone thinks there must be "something up Kupchak's sleeves" I don't have any faith in the guy right now. Something obviously NEEDS to happen because of the jam at SF and the lack of depth at PF, but I actually wouldn't be surprised if nothing did happen. I can almost hear Kupchak saying "Tony Bobbitt will be our backup PG" after not being able to get anything done...

What the hell is going on? Our roster is getting messed up.

The only good things we've done is getting rid of Shaq, Payton and Fox, and adding Odom and I guess Butler.

I've been hearing good things about Vujacic, is he good or something? I've never seen him play..has anyone?

^It's not like he can just trade three of our non-starting forwards for Jason Kidd.

Like I said, what the hell is going on?

WE should be able to keep payton now, I thought practically the whole reason for the trade was to get Banks

absolutely pathetic, first GP- first and last most is my number one hated player. he decided to not take the trade honorably and balked at it by screwingn over the lakers some ore.

second- this trade should've just been repealed and we start over completely with another trade.. maybe gp and george for jason kidd?

instead we settled for even less, have too many wing players that can't shoot. No interior defense, no starting pf/center... and now no real point guard. I'm absolutely furious.

this just puts in a larger hole to contend for a spot in the playoffs, no one can really expect the lakers to even make the eighth seed with this lineup right now.
