<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Grizzlies Sign Pau Gasol To A Multi-Year Contract Extension Memphis, Tennessee? Memphis Grizzlies President of Basketball Operations Jerry West announced today the team has signed forward Pau Gasol to a multi-year contract extension. In keeping with team policy, financial terms of the deal were not announced. Gasol, 24, played in 78 games last season, leading the team in scoring (17.7 ppg), rebounding (7.7 rpg) and blocks (1.69 bpg) in 31.5 mpg. He ranked 20th in the NBA in field goal percentage (.482) and 18th in blocks. He missed the first game of his career due to a sore right foot on Apr. 5, snapping a string of 240 consecutive games, which had been the sixth longest streak of consecutive games played in the NBA. ?We are delighted to reach a contract agreement with Pau,? said Grizzlies President of Basketball Operations Jerry West. ?His play in the Olympic games this summer displayed his value, while showcasing his talent to people throughout the world. Pau is a dynamic player, and we are happy to have him in Memphis as the cornerstone of our franchise.?</div> Full Story
I am so thrilled and so relieved that Pau is staying with the Grizzlies! Now the Grizzlies are really going to take off! I look forward to seeing what the upcoming season brings for the Grizzlies!
His Olympic performances will definately give the team some heart, very good news for Memphis fans and that Reef deal is like a fine wine: it gets better with age.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Supersonic:</div><div class="quote_post">that Reef deal is like a fine wine: it gets better with age.</div> We've taken some heat over time for that trade, but from day one i maintained we'd done well out of it.
I can't say I didn't see this coming, but it's nice to know that he's staying for sure anyway. I see him as our franchise player and would be pretty upset if we traded him away. A lot of times Gasol doesn't get the reputation of an All-Star caliber player because of the limited minutes Hubie plays him, but we all know that if he were to ever play the minutes that players like Bryant and McGrady get then he'd be an All-Star. BTW - Welcome Jerry West and Kfuller!
Based on his play last season you wouldn't think that he is worth 14.3 million dollars, but Pau is also a good investment for the future. Last year was just his third year in the league; he's still in his early twenties. This contract will secure him for the Grizzlies while he's in his prime, and based on what Pau has shown in his first three seasons I'm thinking he should have one hell of a prime. Even if he doesn't get any better, he's still our franchise player, and those are the kind of figures that franchise players are making.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Kid Canada:</div><div class="quote_post">Pau got he max, 6 years 86 million. Do you not think they is a little high?</div> Given the impact he has made (wasn't expected to mature for a long time), his size and scope for improvement, he deserves the money. He has been annointed our franchise player and deserves franchise player money.
Actually, yes Shaq does deserve the 29 million dollars. Being the most dominant force in the nba you should be getting those type of figures. Shaq is insane! Gasol does also deserve that money, if he gets regular playing time. He can be an allstar, one of the best PFs in the game.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting TheNextJordan8:</div><div class="quote_post">I mean does shaq deserve 29 million??? cmon guys its the NBA.</div> Jesus christ, do Laker fans and Kobe haters always have to bring up Kobe or Shaq.
