PG: Stephon Marbury and Gilbert Arenas are a fun matchup to watch. Both have that "feline quickness" and have great ballhandling skills. Marbury and Arenas are both averaging 20ppg however, Marbury has the upperhand in assists. Marbury will need to play tough defense on Arenas as he is shooting 42% from behind the arc. He can ill afford lack of defensive intesity tonight
because he wouldn't want to give Arena any sort of confidence.

SG: Another exciting one as Jamal Crawford and Larry Hughes square off. It should be a dramatic confrontation between the two. It is very important that Crawford actually plays defense. Crawford needs to play force Hughes to take jumpshots from the perimeter. Unlike Hughes, he is shooting 28% from 3point range. Hughes is a great leaper, ballhandler, and passer (he used to play PG) so Jamal needs to play him tough.

SF: Well again...what can we really expect from TT. He will be playing Jarred Jeffries. Let's hope that he can be a factor and take advantage of his matchup. TT is a very capable player he is just nonchelant and doesn't work hard enough. I hope it doesn't go too bad.

PF: Antawn Jamison and Kurt Thomas. Atleast he's not playing the SF like he was in Dallas. Phew! Imagone TT playing him. Well anways, Kurt Thomas is playing yet another dominant PF. From Gasol, O'neal, Duncan, Garnett, Brand, Nowitzki and all the other ones I left out, Kurt is one of our best choices. Jamison can shoot the 3 and is quick and athletic. So Kurt has his hands full again. Despite Jamison's versatility, he isn't that much of an aggressive defender so hopefully Kurt Thomas will make him pay with that midrange jumpshot.

C: Nazr Mohammed will be facing a tough challenge. Brendan Haywood is a brolic dude and might give Nazr a hard time in the post. In addition he is averaging 2.5bpg. But, I am still convinced Nazr will find a way to do his thing and put up points and boards. Mohammed is quick and athletic which might give Haywood some problems. This will definitely be an interesting matchup.

I think it is pretty obvious the floor generals Stephon Marbury and Gilbert Arenas are. They are the leading scorers and leading assists man for their team. They need to get everyone involved in the game if any of them will win. They are also the most exciting to watch too!

My Prediction:
These new and improved Washinton Wizards are a very tough challenge but, I see the Knicks pulling out a 100-98 win over them. I hope it is by more but, the Wizards have a very solid lineup and the highest scoring backcourt in the league with a combined 42+ppg. Also something that I think will be key for us is the return of Allan Houston!!! His presence will definitely lift up our spirits. After sitting out for about 10 months the sharpshooter is finally back! Don't expect him to get the Chaney treatment and play with a bad knee for 49 minutes but, expect him to get around 15. The real game I'm looking forward to is when he comes at the Garden to play Denver! Welcome back Allan Houston! :welcome: :dancepart

Why do you have hornet players pix in the wizards lineup? Anyways, I scored tickets to the game and it should be a good one with two very talented teams. I think it will be a close with hmmm.... Knicks-97, Wizards-95.

you have the hornets line-up right there. i hope allan houston plays well today. my prediction is that allan houston is gonna disappoint us after all this time and isn't gonna put up anything big. i think we might lose this game. but lets all wait and see. good luck knicks.

Tough game. As always I think our bench will be what wins us the game. Perimeter defense is a must. Jamison wont be too much of a problem as we have two great defenders at that position. Haywood doesnt worry me too much either. Perimeter defense on the other hand is a must tonight. Houston wont put up big numbers(I dont think). But he'll be alot more effective than TT. I think he'll get maybe ten points tonight but that will be due more to the lack of shots than his performance. It will be a good game. I predict 100-95 for the New York Knicks.

Allan Houston just made his first shot. Man I feel like crying for joy! Larry Hughes saw Kurt Posting up and he was about to double up on him but, he saw Allan and had second thoughts. And to even suggest adding him in a Vince Carter deal.

Stephon Marbury is killing again. He is putting on great moves and shooting the lights out. He's been the player of the half for many times. Only once Nazr got it last game. He has 14 points and 4 assists on 60% shooting. Marbury doing that will draw more attention to himself so while they are focusing on Marbury Houston has little to no defense on him. Him and Houston are definitely one of the great duos.

My Prediction:
Little defense is being played by both teams. It's very fun and entertaining but, we really do need to step it up defensively. I also think Houston will be playing a bit more to get his rhythm back. Did you see this one play where Hughes was thinking about doubling Kurt but, he thought twice just because Houston was on the floor. The Knicks are playing well and Marbury is on fire and if it goes down to the wire, I'm sure Allan Houston will be in it for clutch situations. I doubt it will go that far. I am predicting a 110-104 win for the Knicks.

POOR officiating tonight!!! That goaltend would have given us a big advantage. It partly our fault too. We were getting killed on the offensive boards. I am real tight right now. I also think the last play should have been from our perimeter guys. We should have found a way to put in Marbury, Crawford, and Houston. But, the game was gift wrapped to the Wizards just because of that poor officiating. It seems like there has been a lot of that as of late. When Kirilenko "fouled" Wade and he made those ft's to get into OT that was another poor example. The officials really did give the game to them period. What a sour way to kick of Allan Houston's debut.

First off I'd just like to welcome H20 back. He played well. He made a few mistakes but its his first game back in a long time that's bound to happen. Overall not a bad debut. As for the game...that has to be one of the worst refereeing games that the Knicks had the misfortune to play in. Who the hell are these guys who call themselves refs?? I really want to know!! I also want to know who really pays these guys?? It was terrible. You guys think that if we pay some of these refs some of Houston's money we'll be able to get some calls?? Sweetney couldnt get a foul(this is nothing new with Sweetney though). Baker couldnt get a foul. Houston got fouled on a shot and nothing. I mean come on! Then there was the goaltend. But we made a few mistakes as well. I'm not too sure about going to TT instead of Houston late. Were going to have an issue on our hands real soon about who finishes games. Crawford or Houston? Also Marbury made some bad defensive plays. Never foul someone and let them make the shot. Careless turnovers were costly. We also should have defended our own backboard better and gotten the ball to one of our perimeter players at the end. I hate it when the refs decide the game but that's what happend this time. Nothing more we can do about it though. Houston looks good so we can take that much out of this game. It's a tough one to swallow but that's just how the cookie crumbles sometimes.

I can easily make a list of all the mistakes the officials made. #15Bennett Salvatore, #55Bill Kennedy, #58 Zach Zarba are the worst officiating squads I have witnessed so far. This will be a tough one to deal with. I can see if NYK was just playing poorly but, the fact that the officials gave Washington an early Christmas gift is really going to hurt me. Now I'm getting some Philly flashbacks from 03-04.

To #15 Bennett Salvatore, #55 Bill Kennedy, #58 Zach Zarba you guys get a [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] :

Hey guys, i'm back from the game. The Knicks had it going to like late 4th quarter. I don't understand how Nazr Mohammed can miss a shot from 7 feet like that. I screamed to the top of my lungs "noo!!!!!!!" lol. Mike Sweetney got a big pop being from Georgetown and there was a lot of Knicks fans too, but tough loss.

They need some leadership off the bench.

i dont know if Allan Houston rings the bell, but he came off the bench and gave the knicks a nice spark.I hate to blame someone other than the knicks but those Officials were the worst ive seen this year.

Yeah, the Officials were bad but I think Lenny Wilkens was complaining about the wrong play. He wanted goal tending on the Steph shot. And it may very well have been. But the Killer was the Brendon Haywood tip in play. That shouldnt have ever counted because Gilbert Arenas clearly pushed off Crawford's lower body to get his shot attempt. That should have been a offensive foul. But instead the Wiz got three on the And 1 tip in by Haywood.

But lets not blame it all on the Refs, the Knicks had their chances. Steph missed Kurt Thomas wide open in the late 2nds of that game, & instead try to go up against the Wizards bigs inside and missed a layup. Crawford took a bad jumper late in the 4th. And Nazr Mohommad and Kurt Thomas both missed shots around the rim on the last possession for the Knicks.

I think the Knicks deserved to lose this game anyways, they gave up way too many offensive rebounds, I think the Knicks are pretty lucky the Wizards didnt have a good shooting night or this game could of been blown open.

^ agreed
i personally didnt think they were that bad (the officials) i mean i see some of the plays you guys talked about...and they probably were fouls, and you're probably right on most the counts....but most of them were pretty knick nack, not any real obvious game costing fouls.

see the raptors thread for some of those [IMG]

That was goaltending when Marbury went for the layup. Horrible call.

The Wizards are the best offensive rebounding team in the league I believe so it's not just the Knicks who give up offensive rebounds to the Wizards. That is why they score so many points they get alot of second opportunities. The Wizards usually dont have good shooting nights which is why they rely so much on their offensive rebounds.

The Wizards on the other hand are pretty lucky the refs gave them that game otherwise the Wizards would have lost. Yes the Knicks had their chances to win but the fact remains if the refs did their jobs the way it was supposed to be done the Knicks would have won. The Knicks shouldnt have to play against both the Wizards and against the ref's poor calls(know what I mean?).
A question to 02civic: Was that goaltend one of those "knick knack" fouls you're talking about? Or was it that push off by Arenas on Crawford that "knick knack" foul you're talking about? Had ANY of these calls been made the Knicks probably would have won. If both these calls would h ave been made the KNicks would have definetely won. But it wasnt meant to be. The refs decided to be incompetent and give the Wizards an early Christmas present. So enjoy you're win and Merry Christmas Wizards fans.
