its not like denvers going to get a lottry pick anyways... but back on point... i think mourning WILL retire soon, or there will be another deal, or 2, but this is end of the Carter Era in Toronto, which was a dissapointing one..
omg, i just came and heard the news coming back from my friends house. i have to say i was shocked. personally i dont like the trade that much, just cause we have 2 old guys, one will probably retire and the other probably wont stay for along time. the only positive i see are the 2 draft picks. ah well, life goes on.
This trade leaves us with a frontcourt rotation of Mourning/Bosh/Marshall/Bonner/Woods/Williams/Williams. All of these players deserve minutes, so how is Mitchell going to dole them out? These guys would probably have to combine for 110 minutes per game, since some of them would also play small forward. In that case, Bosh, Bonner and Woods, who are expected our future at frontcourt, will suffer a huge dent in their development. Babcock should have gotten at least a swingman from the Nets, maybe Zoran Planicic, who has looked promising.
Finally! Am I the only one happy that hes actually gone? Zo will log some time at C (this officially marks the end of Araujo's career, lol), and were absolutely packed in the front court giving us depth in all areas. All of you have to remember that Vince averaged only 15, 3 and 3 (all career lows), shooting a low percentage (41%, another career low), and was not productive at all this season. In this trade we have guys who will give it every night, plus 2 first rounders which could be some top 10 picks depending on the Nets future. Lets face it, Vince's value was low, this had to be the best deal on the table (considering Portland rejected). I am one of the few that is very supportive of Rob Babcock and his decision.

Some of the guys were saying their were better deals available but this is what Babby wanted.

Well I think that Carter really was messing up our team, so getting rid of him is an improvement. It will really cut down the distractions and improve our shot selection. 2. The two draft picks will help us next year, b/c we are in a limbo state of rebuilding. 3. If Zo plays it will immediately help our team. Not to mention that we got A Williams, and Eric Williams, who is a hard worker. I see three clear benefits of the trade, so i'm happy.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Knowing Carter was on the trading block, the Nets called the Raptors two days ago on a lark. "Other than giving up Richard or Jason, I didn't know if we had what we needed to get that type of player - you never know until you ask," Thorn said, referring to Kidd and Richard Jefferson. He said he was initially surprised that Toronto went for the deal. ... Around the league, the move caused some executives to question the thinking of Rob Babcock, Toronto's first-year general manager, and to praise the Nets' move. "It's a home run," said one Eastern Conference executive who spoke on the condition of anonymity. "This deal definitely makes them better. Alonzo wasn't playing. Aaron Williams wasn't playing much. Basically, it's Eric Williams for Vince Carter."</div> http://www.nytimes.com/2004/12/18/sports/b...all/18nets.html
Babcock is an idiot, plain and simple. You trade away your team's best player and leading scorer for an ailing center that very possibly might never play again (in the meantime taking his huge contract) and two bench players that can't score and probably won't get much playing time. Yes, we get two draft picks, but they won't be high ones, and taking Babcock's prior history of scouting draft picks into consideration, it wouldn't matter if they're high pick anyways. They put Araujo on the IR list, which means that they're admitting that he is obviously not ready or not NBA calibre (something everyone else knew already with the exception of Babcock). We're trading one disgruntled star for another. People were angry how Vince was not giving maximum effort, just wait and see how a player with major health problems plays, who doesn't even want to be here (assuming he even steps back on the court). In the meantime, they've ruined they're only opportunity to get rid of Jalen's huge contract in a package for Vince. Who is going to take him now? - no GM not named Babcock would even consider it. I'd seriously rather they just did the Portland trade, get the cap space, blow everything up and start from scratch. Portland already agreed to the deal, but Babcock pulled out. Grunwald did it and now Babcock's continuing the trend of trying to put a bandaid on everything, hoping that it will make it better. Grunwald made the mistake of signing AD, JYD, Olajuwon and AW to huge deals and tried to fix it by trading for Jalen. They should just realize that this current team is in a cycle of mediocrity and start over. I'm just tired of this garbage. When will this organization get its act together? It's just a constant circus and drama. The Raptors organization is not respected by the rest of the league and rightfully so.
TRUST! I love this trade. Did anyone watch the T-Wolves game?!?! They won with grit and determination. Well guess what....we just traded soft, spoiled, underachievement for grit, determination, & self sacrifice. Hey, this year we make suck a$$ which means over the next 2 seasons, we will likely receive 4 fairly high draft picks. I am excitied, if nothing else then to start anew. Also, look at the roster. Do you really think that a trade isn't coming. There is much more to come. Our roster doesn't make any sense at the moment. Vince Carter whose best days are behind him gets traded for 5 guys.....I would have been happy with a $5 coupon for Pizza Pizza for VC. No more fade away jump shots, no more flailing on the floor. Toughness, Matt Bonner throwing people to the ground kinda sh!t. I am just writing for the sake to write now. Give it time....I can certainly imagine the haters to change their tune soon enough.
lol look at the nets official site its has vincve doing a dunk at last years all star game and under neith it says let the vinsanity begin on the raptors site it has the players then it says raptors over them its sordof pathetic if u ask me
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting og15:</div><div class="quote_post">Yes, their's fire then their's throwing him into a volcano without ACME special edition volcano boots, let him be a more important part of the offense, but don't make him play a role of a primary scorer/playmaker, that's different from playing the role as a starter. Give him 13-15 shots a game, let the team not have a defined "1st option" but just have a few main option who will be Alston, MoPete I guess, and Bosh.</div> hmm.. and therein lies the problem ... we dont have many other options. These days, Rafer's trying a bit too hard, and MoPete inconsistent. But I agree, 15 shots a game is a fair amount. But he should be given the license to shoot which'll improve his confidence and so he wont be hesitant when he feels that he can take his man.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting BobbyEscobar:</div><div class="quote_post">I think skip is going back to miami</div> I think the Heat are fine with their PG position. Damon Jones has played really well for them. And when he is out of the game Wade can move over to PG. And Dooling can be good in spots, so while Skip had good times their I doubt he goes back. I know what your thinking tho..in a package to send Zo to Miami. But the Heat have said they are not interested in Alonzo under his current deal. zo goes back to Miami, only if the Raptors offer him a buyout and Zo accepts.
Right now I wanna smack Babcock. He traded Vince to a team within his own division. He traded him when he had the lowest trade value of his career. What did he get for VC? A Center that may not even play for us, a C/PF on the decline, Eric Williams, who's the only real factor in this deal, and 2 mid to late first round draft picks. Essentially, we traded Vince to a team in our on division, for a role player and a couple of mid first rounders. On top of this,we get no salary cap relief for next year. The Mourning situation is a mess, and even if he didn't play, and we got rid of him, we'll still have over 42 million dollars in our team payroll. Even with Vinces value at the lowest point of his career, you don't trade him when he's injured. Vince had a few very good games this year when he got the ball. If Babcock wanted a better deal, he would of told Sam Mitchell to run more plays for Carter, and play him more often, so teams would get a better look at what they're getting when Vince is the top option on offense. We can trade the picks in potential deals. Maybe even use them to trade up in this years draft so we have on the of top picks. But that is still, not the best deal I think we could of gotten. At this point, I really wished we did the deal with the Blazers. Atleast you get some players that can score, and some salary cap relief for this off-season, on top of it. Next up to be traded: Zo, Donyell Marshall and Jalen Rose. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">As it turns out, Alonzo Mourning may be getting exactly what he wants -- a chance to play for a ring, in a comfortable environment. Though it wasn't confirmed by any of the principals, an Eastern Conference general manager said last night that the former Nets center -- traded to Toronto in the Vince Carter deal yesterday -- is going to be redirected to the Miami Heat, the team he put on the map through the first 12 years of his career. It was unclear if Mourning would receive a buyout from Toronto and then join Miami as a free agent, or if he would be moved in a follow-up trade for a Heat player who earns something in the neighborhood of Mourning's $5.4 million salary. </div> http://www.nj.com/nets/ledger/index.ssf?/b...50277235940.xml
i would turnaround and trade rose and marshall for big dawg (expiring contract) and kenny thomas (gives us a low post threat), while getting rid of rose's burdernsome contract. so here's how our lineup would look starters bench ZO aaron williams bosh matt bonner lammond kenny thomas eric williams mo pete rafer milt
My reaction is totally based on the draft picks, and I'm not that sure how its going down. Around what selection would those draft picks probably be? Also, Chad Ford kept saying how he thought it was a good trade for the Raps.
