I don'tt know where to put this thread so mods you can put it in the appropirate forum. I'm wondering what kind of basketball books that is worth my time reading, i have a 3 week spring break and got nothing to do. So far i've got the yao book, phil jackson's last season, ai's only the strong survives. Any suggestions will be welcomed.
I'm reading "Wilt, Larger than Life." It's a great book that is the most complete biography I have read so far. "Larry Bird: Drive" is a great book also. "For the Love Of The Game, My Story By Michael Jordan" is a quick read but it's a great book.
other suggestion i got some other suggestions as I read tons of b-ball books Bobby Knight: My story Mitch Album: FAB FIVE Hoop Dreams (the book) Ken Atkins: Basketball offenses and plays Basketball's Best Shots: The Greatest Nba Photography of the Century The Carolina Way: Leadership Lessons from a Life in Coaching by Dean Smith The Jordan Rules
The Jordan Rules by Sam Smith: Probably the one book that shows the true inside of the Bulls organization and a truer side of Jordan. A must read for any Jordan/Bulls fan. Sacred Hoops by Phil Jackson: Phil Jax is probably the smartest coach ever in the NBA. He knew how to get the best out of his players and this is an in-depth look at his Zen philosophies and how he handled the Bulls. How to be like Mike by Pat Williams: An inspirational book about Michael and his philosophies. I am in the process of reading this and have already came away with some basketball and life lessons.
I really enjoyed Drive by Larry Bird. I haven't gotten a chance to pick up Jackson's newest book, but I have heart that is good also.
A 3 week spring break??? Lucky! I think <u>The Jump</u>, a book on Sebastian Telfair and life in the NY might be a good book although I never read it.

Not that it isn't well written it's the fact that the cat writing it put things in a way that they weren't meant to be....such as the Bulls practices/Mikes "dislike" of certain teammates and the way they played/practice. Alot of things were taken out of context. With that being said, the quintessential basketball book for anyone to read is Foul! The Connie Hawkins story as told by David Wolf. Classic book. There are tons more that I enjoyed,an older book that I just read that was excellent was Reggie Miller's 'I Love Being The Enemy'...goes into great detail about his prowess as a Knickskiller and his overall attitude toward the game.

Any book written by John Wooden is a must read. His book represents Life Lessons for anyone to apply in their jobs and etc. Phil Jackson had a book called Mind Games. I had a chance to browse through at Borders last week. Interesting stuff as he basically spilled some beans on his time with the Bulls and Lakers.
Larry Bird: Drive Phil Jackson: Sacred hoops the 2 best ball books you could ever read, drive for motivation and hoops for mental toughness.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting 44Thrilla:</div><div class="quote_post">Let Me Tell You A Story- by Red Auerbach and John Feinstein</div> Exellent, EXCELLENT book. I couldn't put it down. Also, the Last Season by PJ wasn't bad, but a little slow to get into. I would also check out "High Above Courtside: the memoirs of Johnny Most."

It is an objective view about the player everyone admires. Stuff may have been taken out of context but you can't say all of it was. I heard that a lot of the information came from Horace Grant who was as inside the Bulls as you can get. That is most of the reason why Mike hated him so much.
If you played high school ball, read the new book about the best HS team in the country. "Miracle at St. Anthony", about how Bob Hurley makes champions out of troubled city kids year after year. Just released & on NY Times best seller list.

However, alot of the stuff said in The Jordan Rules were said by people who had a grudge against MJ because of what he expected from teammates in practice and in a game. Ho Grant and Bill Cartwright long had a grudge against Mike because he rode their asses hard in practice and in games trying to get them to go all out. I read somewhere where Phil called the book a sensationalized piece of garbage. At anyrate,I just wanted to point out that this Smith cat got alot of his info from players who had an agenda against Mike.

Adrian Wojnarnowski, the fine columinst for the Bergen Record, did a great job detailing what happened to Hurley's team. I read an excerpt where Hurley ripped his team despite his team winning. He was really annoyed with the players attitudes towards the game and all.
This book is a fiction book, but I enjoy it a lot. It's called, Slam! by Walter Dean Myeres. The Oddesy of Allen Iverson (Only the Strong Survive) is also a great book.
