The warriors won't be able to keep all their young players and I feel the most expendable player is Dunleavy or Zarko. But they definitly have to keep Pietrus and find a way for him to get 35 minutes a night season as a starter or off the bench.

Do the warriors sign Dunleavy to a long term contract this coming off season or do they wait on him?
I would wait till the end of his contract and see what he shows next season. My biggest problem with Dunleavy is D but he has improved alot on it, but not that much. With Murphy its just unbearable. But knowing Mully he probably will sign Dunleavy to some 40-50 million dollar contract next season. Which scares me becuase the warriors need to sign Pietrus at all costs. But I'm just wondering how over the salary Cohan will be willing to pay.

Id definetly say wait til after next season to decide. Between Zarko, Pietrus and Dun they have all shown flashes of greatness since the all star break. The problem with Dunleavy tho is he doesn't fit well with our starting lineup. Either him or Murphy needs to be benched because with both on the court at the same time there is a huge hole on defense. Pietrus has been very impressive on both ends of the court the last few games and if he keeps up it theres no reason he should't be starting. Zarko has provided good energy off the bench aswell..I love the way he pushes the ball upcourt after getting a defensive rebound, he does it much more aggressivley then Dunleavy. Its funny how I made that post a little while ago about who should stay and go and how quick my opinion has changed between Zarko, Pietrus and Dun ever since Air France has broken out these last few games. Aslong as he keeps this up he's definetly a keeper. I think through out next season we will get a better idea of the consistancy of all 3 of these players.

Pietrus and Zarko just seem to fit the mold of this team well. His recent play shouldn't be too much of a surprise. He's had some very good games even before this recent stretch but Monty would always turn back to Dun. But now with his re-commitment to defense you can't take him off the court. We absolutely must keep this guy. I'm sure there are scouts our there drooling, waiting for Mullin to overpay for Dun so they can swoop in and take Pietrus for us. This will be a huge mistake. Him and Bdiddy are the only ones who can consistently create their own shot and ones for others.

That is one good question. I would love to keep both him and Pietrus but what happens to the center position? Foyle is a joke and even the team knows it. I would hope for my scenario in the trade thread idea but ideally I'd like to keep them both and see which one stays.

With Davis' contract, Mully can't afford to sign Dunleavy to that large of a contract... unless he manages a salary dump for Murphy and Fisher, which I don't see happening. Especially with Murphy's BYC status.

I think Mullin should wait. Hard to say if he will because he has been in love with Dunleavy. I say wait and if he produces and this team (with him contributing) goes to the playoffs and makes some noise then give him a 3 to 4 year deal b/t $20-25m. I believe Dunleavy will be asking for some big dough considering the way Mullin gives out contracts.

I completely agree. None of that crap he pulled last summer. I think he learned from those mistakes. Of course, we could blow up and be the 5th seed and Dunleavy could get $10m per year...

Mullin should definitely wait because some other teams might want to give us more for his draft rights in the offseason. You lock him up you can't trade him because of base year compensation. I like Dunleavy's effort to improve his consistency, but Zarko and him seem to do the same thing, except Zarko's more aggressive and slightly quicker and much taller. I would like to keep everybody, but who thinks Cohan would pay luxury tax if there is one? Zarko's already a much bigger walking mismatch and you have to keep Pietrus. The guy's got too much upside to ignore. I wouldn't want to see another former, highly athletic Warrior kicking butt for the Wizards.

I am not thinking "dump Dunleavy", but he is one guy who has some market value and contract-wise would not be ultra complicated to swap. Meanwhile I see a draft shaping up wher 2/3 of the lottery projections are way overhyped and a number of solid talent is getting underrated. Getting draft bargains is a great way to get better. We might be able to convert Fish,White and a future #2 into a late #1,but I think we can get a bit more for Dunleavy. As the new look W's are winning, slot # 5 may slip to #7,# 8,and that mucks up a trade down strategy a bit. My fear is the W's might buy into the hype, draft an import who is Shika-except much less NBA ready. Then someone offers Dunleavy a deal that is so excessive we'd not want to match and we get zero for him. Considering that the W's are bouncing back after losing some major players, all that would not be a disaster, but it would be blowing a chance to move up a few notches.

Why do you guys worry about the $$? Its not your $$$.

The cap is a soft cap so you can pay whatever $$ you want to keep your first round picks, which means both Dunleavy and Pietrus. Dunleavy is not going anywhere. He needs to stay. Think about what the criticisms were early in the year, no defense, no consistency, no aggression. Well he's made good strides in all areas, especially his consistency. He's only going to get better with Baron.

Pietrus will get better with Baron as well, but Dunleavy has been inconsistent and doesn't do much on D wheras Pietrus does awesome in pretty much every skill set. So I don't know why we should keep Dunleavy over Pietrus at this point

Luxury tax. Certainly, there is no hard cap, and technically, owners can pay whatever they want. However, in reality, there is a luxury tax that prevents most of owners from paying whatever they want. And, yeah. It's not our money, but Cohan's. And, if Cohan refuse to pay the luxury tax and let players go, it will become a problem for us. And, will Cohan spend money to keep all our young players? Well, there is a problem with that. Why do you think Bucks traded Van Horn, when Redd has bird right? Why did we trade Jamison or didn't even promise Arenas for max next year? Why the last year's contracts are considered as a golden for teams that has no business of having caproom? Reality is that other than, NY, Dallas and Portland, most owners either refuse to pay luxury tax or want to pay minimum luxury tax. Cohan is no exception from that rule, and our financial situaion isn't that good to say the least.

Currently, we have Davis, Richardson and Murphy's 10+ mils per year contracts, and Fisher's 6 mils and Foyle's 8 mils. And, their contracts alone will be 50 mils in next two years. And so far, luxury tax line will probably drawn around 55-60 mils, unless NBA finds new source of income or current CBA changes this year. So, if Cohan refuse to pay any luxury tax, you can safely say good bye to Dun, Pietrus, Zarko, Biedrins and whoever you can think of. Even if Cohan decide to pay some of luxury tax, it would be hard to sign number of our young players without dumping salaries. And, only ways for us to keep all our players is either CBA changes dramatically or Cohan decides to eat huge portion of luxury tax. And, I won't bank on either of them. That's why we are discussing about our young player's future.

For the first time, I really don't mind having Dunleavy. However, if I have to choose among Dunleavy, Pietrus and Zarko, Dunleavy will be the last guy for me to choose.

First, I will remove whoever will cost the most, and at this point, it will be Dunleavy.

Second, Zarko will find his role in bench, will be cheaper, and he brings similar game as Dunleavy, although not as good. If we can get similar stuff cheaper, especially when we need to save money, why shouldn't we do it? And, Pietrus really became a super sub from the bench, brings the best defense against swing man, and he works very well with Davis.

Third, Potential. I kept hearing that Dunleavy will blow out from few people, but I just don't see how. It's not like he has unfulfilled tremendous athlatism. And, based on three years, it doesn't seem like he will develop a killer move, which will elevate him to All-Star. He will be a starting SF, who will be a efficient glue type of player, which will be similar to what Zarko will be in the future. So, if we have to choose one of two, I will choose cheaper one. And, in terms of potential, it's just idiotic to move Pietrus...

Pietrus is very close to taking over the SF starter job, plus F is probably where we can gain something in the draft. Zarko is playing well beyond all expectations and is relatively cheap. That does not have to mean Duns must go or will go,but if someone is going,he would appear the most likely. Wayback when he was picked there was a sense he'd be a great passer,a great perimeter shooter. He is good at both and great appears out of reach.

I agree, we need to commit to Pietrus. He's changing the momentum everytime he enters the game whether it be with his defense, drives to the hoop, or gettin to the line. If we commit to Dun as our starter I just think it means bye bye Pietrus which Kwan analyazed thoroughly thru the financial situation. And losing Pietrus will be disastrous. Dun is an average player. I'm still not going to call him a good passer unless he get his assist/turnover ratio higher. He doesn't create enough opportunities for his teamates to be labelled a great passer yet I'm sorry.

Pietrus needs to stay with us. I have a feeling if he leaves, we will see him blossom into a star or at least a very good player to have putting up 15 a night. If Dunleavy doesn't get much better with Baron around, then we should move him and start Pietrus

In recent games Zarko and Pietrus have had a lot of minutes and played well. Both of them, and Dunleavy also played roles other than SF. The trend has been that the bench guys may get as many minutes as the starters and many will appear in multiple positions/roles,with often a situation where its unclear who is actually in a specific position. It seems to be working, and so there may be an incentive to not head off in another direction. There is some logic to dealing Dunleavy pre-draft,especially if we get a good return. There is also logic to staying with most of this group and seeing how it works out. If nobody offered enough in a Dunleavy deal, then the W's keep him,and probably think that if he does not fetch a lot in a trade,he is not apt to be getting an extreme contract offer later

My 2 cents...Dunleavy sucks. He needs to go by any means necessary. Trade him, waive him, let him sign some where else...in my opinion, he's not even worth being a bench warmer. A consolation prize for him if they sent him packing...give him a 24hr fitness guest pass for 2 weeks since he thinks taking off his shirt cuz he gets ejected is a novel idea.

I wouldn't go as far as waiving Dunleavy. He is still a pretty good player, though not worth a third pick. I would trade Dunleavy for a worthy player, but letting go of someone that has value is not a good idea.
Dunleavy can still help this team. We have alot of depth. Waiving him we would then have to play occasionly Chaney off the bench. That makes me shuddeer. I'd rahter it be Dunleavy.
