<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Willie Green readily admits that two years ago, he could not picture all of this.

Back then, at the 2003 NBA pre-draft camp in Chicago, Green was one of 65 players hoping to impress general managers and scouts in attendance. He was a standout at Detroit Mercy, a 6-foot-4 guard who was solid defensively and showed potential on offense.

Green was selected by Seattle with the 41st pick but was acquired by Philadelphia in a draft-night trade. That move brought him to this: Coming home to play the defending NBA champions.

"I couldn't really envision this," Green said. "Now that I'm in this situation it's even better than I thought it would be. At that time I was just trying to take it one step at a time, trying to get in, try to make a team. Now things are looking pretty bright for me and I just want to continue to work hard and build on top of what I've already done."

The Sixers didn't use Green much in Game 1, subbing him in for one minute in the second quarter (Green made the most of it and scored two free throws) and then again in the last minute of the fourth quarter (Green responded with a jumper). It was hardly the playoff debut any young player scripts, but it's possible the Sixers may use Green more as they attempt to even the series.</div>

i feel bad for willie as well. i thought that the couple of games AI missed, green stepped up teriffically. i thought that then obie would use him more, but i was wrong. he's still just letting him sit and rot on the bench. i think he's a good talent wasted. i never could have envision this happening in the begining of the season. well, it seems highly unlikely that that willie will resign after this season. [IMG] do you guys think there is any possible way of resigning him. cuz we all know if he leaves, he'll be a star with his next team, and from 2 or 3 seasons later, we all would wish that he would've resigned cuz AI won't be as effective. You've heard me rant on and on about Green before- so I won't do it. Instead, I'll say what we can do. Let him go in the offseason because its obvious we aren't going to utilize him. See if he prospers on some other team and if he continues living up to his potential, try to sign him back when he's a free agent. I have a feeling this is going to happen since Billy King and the 76ers organization has been known to do this- just check out Brian Skinner. There's probably more but that was all I could think of off the top of my head.

Unfortunately, that's what it may come down to. This seems as the best possible scenario for both parties. We could get a solid role player in exchange for him and at the same time he might finally be able to play. I just don't want to see him ending up scoring 30 points on us one day and finish us off with a GW shot, that's the type of thing that really makes you regret doing a trade. But to me it's really simple, it's either they let him play or trade him, because he is dripping with potential and we're just sitting him. He must be good for something. So I would definitely be up for this (trade).

But on side note, O'Brien should really let him play. He is playing against his hometown team, but that's no reason for him to play, but the fact that he's an aggressive/physical player and could penetrate to the rim gives him a good chance to be effective against the Pistons. I'd say that O'Brien should give him Aaron McKie minutes.

do you guys think there's a possibility to do a sign and trade? and, just wondering, how did he get the minutes to play last season when iverson wasn't injured? cuz i think obie should just copy what they did last season to let him play more. also, if willie goes to another team, i bet he will score 30pts, grab 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and 5 assists. oh yeah, and avery, i tried to cut it little, but it just all seems important.

Yeah, the way Willie has been treated this season is very unfair to him. During the summer, O'Brien basically assured him a starters spot alongside Allen yet when the season actually came, Green only receives garbage minutes and emergency use playing time. I've said this before and I'll say it again trade him let him free. Green deserves it, staying here in Philadelphia will grow a cancer to his career. Although many would like to see him stay I want to see him succeed because I know dude can play.

Maybe O'Brien doesn't like the way he fits as a starters role or maybe even a Sixth man role, but that doesn't mean he has to starve the young man of minutes. Countless of times has Green proved himself in the absence of Allen, still it must not be good enough for the 76er head coach.

I?m going to drift off topic a little. O?Brien has really hurt the mindset?s of Philly?s young guys. With the exception of Kyle Korver and Iguodala, guys with proven talent from last season like Samuel Dalembert and Willie Green have been treated badly. Something O?Brien should think about is, both players have shown promise and were here before he was and JO needs to learn how to accept that. Now, it?s up in the air wither both will come back to play for the Sixers next year.

Portland needs a shooting guard pretty badly, what do you guys think you could get from Portland if they don't make a play for Redd/Allen?
