When you earnestly believe you can compensate for a lack of skill by doubling your efforts, there's no end to what you can't do
I don't use Facebook much, so I mostly just accept the friend requests when people add me. Once in a while, I'll look at Facebook and see if anyone has posted anything interesting or anything to me, specifically. I mostly just try to keep the personal information (about favourite music, etc) current.

The only time I friend request somebody is if I notice that they have de-friended me.

I don't post much on Facebook much now because the mix of real friends, family, people I know at work... people I once knew etc... got weird. I know I could group em, but it doesn't seem to be worth the effort. A few people I lost contact with did find me on Facebook and that was cool.

When I typed in Barfo in the search to friend him, this is what I got!
Well done, sir!Col. Barfoot is a 90 year-old veteran of three wars and a Medal of Honor recipient who was told to take down his flagpole. On July 1, 2010, in large part because of the Colonel, a Virginia law protecting flag displays took effect.

Part of the Rotation
I have two Facebook accounts.
One that is for work and is entirely public. I don't have many friends there... a couple dozen or so, I think, but I am friends with my coworkers and bosses and clients/potential clients.
My personal one is relatively locked down. I try to keep it hidden from searches, etc., which means if someone searches for me they SHOULD get my work account. Which is fine; going from work to personal is easy.
I have gone through stretches where I'd add people to Facebook. Girls, primarily, that I'd meet out and about or through other girls. Lately, I've done less of that. For a variety of reasons.
In fact, I've gone through an austerity period, trimming my Facebook friends list repeatedly, nearly halving it from ~300 to ~170. I tend to keep:
1. Family (my siblings, cousins, parents, grandmothers, etc.)
2. Friends in real life
3. People I interact with regularly on Facebook or elsewhere
4. Attractive women that are communicative and/or active on Facebook (chatting and/or posting pics)
Also I have a few Blazers fans sprinkled in for good measure...
Finally: when someone friend requests me that I'm not interested in, I just let it sit there. I don't ignore it because then they might re-request me... or they'll notice that I actively denied them. Better to let it linger and hope they forget about me (or at least that I will have the "I never check for friend requests!" excuses if I need to use it in real life.)

Sure, nice guys can win - if they're nice guys with a lot of talent. Nice guys with a little talent finish fourth and nice guys with no talent finish last." -- Sandy Koufax
