The 2012 Major League Baseball season is spinning some surprising tales, some stories that were not expected back on opening day in early April. Will these stories continue or change?

    Major League Baseball Forum:
Question No. 1: Are The Red Sox Or The Phillies In Deeper Trouble?
Question No. 2: Do The Pirates Or Diamondbacks Have A Better Shot At The Playoffs?

No matter what kind of bookmaker betting software you might use, you have to be surprised with a number of events in the first two and a half months of the current Major League Baseball season. For one thing, the Boston Red Sox and the Philadelphia Phillies find themselves in the basements of their respective divisions, the American League East and the National League East. Boston has been a perennial contender in the A.L. East alongside the New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays. The Red Sox have built themselves into a regular contender, not always getting the brass ring, but creating a culture of consistency that has given New Englanders the best baseball years of their adult lives.

When you do your homework and try to plan your next bet at any one of several premier betting sites in the country, you would have historically been smart to pick the Red Sox to do well, but this year, they're looking up at everyone in their division… even the Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays. Boston fans are very worried that their team is going to be caught at the bottom of the A.L. East for the duration.

The online sports betting calculus also would have favored the Philadelphia Phillies before the start of the season. The Phillies have made the playoffs each of the past five seasons, capturing two pennants and a world title along the way. Finding the Phils in the N.L. East cellar is a shock to the system. Therefore, in answering question one of this two-question survey, one must ask if Boston or Philly is in better position to make a run. Boston is only six games back as of June 12 while Philadelphia is nine games out of first, but when one then realizes that Boston has to climb over both the Yankees and Rays, while the Phils have less proven N.L. East teams in front of them, it's Philadelphia which still has the better chance of making a run.

On to question two. In any attempt to analyze sportsbook reviews, one needs to gauge just how well equipped teams are for the long haul. It's true that on the surface, the Pittsburgh Pirates, just half a game behind the Cincinnati Reds in the National League Central Division, are better positioned to make the playoffs than the Arizona Diamondbacks, who are eight games back in the National League West. However, the Diamondbacks have a team that won the division last year and knows how to handle itself through the long grind of a 162-game regular season. The Pirates hit a wall last August and have to do a lot of heavy lifting to get to the big show in October. Stick with the Diamondbacks longer than the Bucs this season. Question No. 1: Are The Red Sox Or The Phillies In Deeper Trouble? To me, The Red Sox. They have more injuries, and more questions. They also arguably play in the best division in baseball.
Question No. 2: Do The Pirates Or Diamondbacks Have A Better Shot At The Playoffs? This one is a little hard to answer. A lot of people were picking Arizona to win their division before the season, but so far it hasn't panned out. The Pirates are a welcomed surprise thus far. Call me crazy, but I think they can compete in that division.
