the team was 39-43 in 88-89, and 59-23 in 89-90. Learn the teams records from year to year, then post.

How you didn't know the teams record in 1990...

Anywho, it wasn't just Buck who they brought in. It was having Rick as the coach from the start of the season, and the quicker than anticipated development of Cliff Robinson (as a rookie) and re-signing Wayne Cooper that helped them improve by 20 games from 88-89 to 89-90.
Lopez took us from 33-49 to 55-28. I said that was Buck Williams LIKE. Not the exact same.

Buck was the main addition. We added Mo and Dorrell in 2013 too but Lopez was the main addition.

You really needed to word that better than.

RoLo is getting fewer minutes per game on the Bucks than Pat Connaughton, BTW.

I would rather let Whiteside go entirely. What with Nurk and Collins we can cover it - and the remaining C minutes can go to Moses Brown.

Yes, Whiteside puts up numbers for us, but that's because he's being put into a position to do so. But using him in a way that makes use of his strengths has resulted in our defense being shitty. (Of course, losing Harkless and Aminu and playing Carmelo doesn't help either.)

Bill Walton or Tom Owens?

Seriously....it’s a question of Whiteside v. Lopez?

Whiteside all day any day.

I think I like this answer the best. Id say we need a wing more than a big as well. Heck I might prefer Aminu or Harkless if healthy to either big.

Oh hell yeah I'd get Aminu in a heartbeat over either of these guys. He'd be a perfect complement (off the bench? starting?) at SF to Collins and Melo. I'd really rather see him play the bulk of his minutes at SF if he starts, though.

Harkless...I'd pick up on a vet minimum.

Whiteside, if he wants to be here, willing to play backup, and will take $10 mil or less/year.
Then Rolo, if he wants to be here, willing to play backup, and will take $10 mil or less/year.
Then, neither, which costs $0 (or vet min).

All 3 are attractive options, imho.

I love Aminu but he would require a trade in order to get him. We could do Ariza for him but I don’t think that would improve our team. So what I would do is sign Harkless to a 2 year 10 to 15 mil deal total. We can start Harkless at SF and have Ariza come off of the bench as a PF behind Collins. I think it would be wise to have Ariza come off of the bench next year cause he’s getting old so he can’t really play starter mins anymore. But as a PF off of the bench he can provide nice 3 point shooting and versatile defense. And for the Whiteside vs Rolo convo Whiteside is clearly better

I initially voted Rolo, but the major caveat to that is that re-signing Whiteside also retains our MLE, whereas signing Rolo would require use of our MLE, which prevents us from using it on another forward or a backup PG. So the question is actually "Whiteside and MLE FA or Roin Lopez", which definitely tips the scales in Hassan's favor for me.

Being a starter shouldn't determine the minutes a player plays as Ariza's minutes can be cut back just as easily whether he starts or comes off the bench. To me it's about creating the best lineups that work together.

This is silly. It's Hassan , and it's not close. Rolo has improved his game, but he's not Whiteside good.

The funny part of this comment is Rolo has not improved any portion of his game. He has dropped in every single statistical category that matters. He has aged since being here and he has not really changed his game at all?

I watched him last year, and to me, he had improved his offensive game.

Robin has a 3 pt shot recently since playing with his brother...I just don't want the team to get slower....he's really slow

Whiteside is the better overall player, but I think Rolo would be much, much more willing to step into the backup role behind Nurkic.

Plus, I still loves me some Robin Lopez. I'd be thrilled to have him back on the Blazers under any circumstances.

for me that guy is Ed Davis
Hmm Ed Davis would actually be a pretty good back up to Nurkic. He play solid defense and get rebound at a good rate. I would love to have robin come back to be our big men coach after he retire though

This team hasn't been good defensively for quite a while....except when Nurkic was on the floor. Take him out, and it gets worse in a hurry. Rolo was a little better defender than Whiteside....but he had guys like Batum and Matthews. Whiteside is stuck with CJ, Dame, 'Melo.....my goodness, Bill Russell couldn't save that group.

It's because most teams need a mascot enforcer, and Hassan just doesn't give you that.

The best defensive team we've had under Terry was in 2017-18, when we were 8th in defensive efficiency (with Nurk/Aminu/Ed manning the paint). Our offense was only 15th that year unfortunately and we ran into Jrue/AD in the playoffs.

The best defensive team before that was in 2014-15, when we finished 9th.

Last year, we were 28th, which was an abomination.
