I know that Nic's agent and representatives were in town today to meet with the Blazers' brass. All quiet as of now, wonder how it went?

Part of the Rotation
Hopefully we didn't kill our cap space for Nic. I like the kid and all, but he's a role player.
THANK U MM! Was just gonna post that. Who cares if we lose another bench player that is streaky.
Theres a plan in everything...
With most coaches, you don't have to guess at how much to pay for potential, for a player going into his 5th year. Any other coach has already brought out the player's potential 100%.
McMillan has cost Paul Allen millions of dollars in unrealized potential.
This week's favorites:
Batum just needs to take more shot attempts.
The reason Buchanan said Freeland might come over is just to keep the bipolar lunatics on this board from acting hasty or doing anything irrational.
Have you watched a single Blazers game this season?
It takes a true knuckledragger, someone so bereft of imagination and curiosity they may as well live in a hamster cage to say that.
I need to start gambling again. Pretty much everything I have said about the team has happened.
Nic is hardly streaky. When he gets minutes, he produces: http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/...uCiczTjqPkPaB4
That is the markings of a starter.
Part of the Rotation
When I look at this thread I cant help but wonder if Batum were on another team and about to become a free agent how many people would be all over saying we need to get this guy?
Guy is only 23 and is always being asked for by other teams when the trade rumors are swirling. I don't consider him another streaky bench player. When he gets minutes, I think he produces.
I dunno, when Tayshaun Prince was 23 did fans clamor for him?
My point is that I wouldn't use this as much of a barometer for measuring the true value of a player, because most fans are stupid and focus on getting a guy who can put up a shitload of points, neglecting the other things a player does (like defense, passing, etc.)

When you earnestly believe you can compensate for a lack of skill by doubling your efforts, there's no end to what you can't do
MM, what do you think he should get. Unfortunately you have to take in shit contracts like the one Afflalo just got. I believe he is getting better and have no beef over paying a bit to keep him. He is my favorite Blazer, so I admit I am biased, but I believe he has a brought future and 7 years younger then Wallace.
I'd like to see 5 years 37.5 million. Back loaded would be great because of our contracts. Can they even go 5 years anymore?

Well whether you want to or not you have to look at market value and when you factor in comparables, age and potential I dont think it crazy to think that he will get 8-10 mil.
9 is too much
Here is a great article on salaries and Nic
http://www.blazersedge.com/2012/1/18...-nicolas-batum
I think giving him 9 mil is bad, IMO. I think he is a 6-8 mil per type player so far. I'm tired of our team giving money on possible talent. He may very well be a 9 mil, maybe even a 10-11 mil type player; but until he proves he can be consistent on a seasonable basis; we can't give in to high dollar demands.

Teams overpay players because the chance of them obtaining a similar quality player in FA is less likely.
With someone like Batum, overpaying for his current production isn't a bad gamble.

Yes, for his current production I'm sure you can, but the point of paying more is that you're paying for potential. Do you want the Blazers to offer Oden a contract after this season? If yes, anything you offer is paying for production. So ask yourself, is it a better deal to overpay Nic by 1-2 million per year....or Oden for 5-6 or whatever you're going to give him (And which is sure to be over 1-2 million)?
Aside from the bench mob (who are basically useless right now), Nic is the only player on the team with significant room for growth.
