Stamp Out Hunger, the 27th Annual National Association of Letter Carriers food drive is Saturday, May 11th. Letter carriers across the country will collect food donations as they deliver mail along their route. We hope to collect over a million pounds of food for Oregon and Clark County, WA during this one day event.

Leave your canned food and/or monetary donations out for you letter carrier to pick up using the bag provided through your mail service.

All food and funds raised benefits the Oregon Food Bank Network.

This will be the 12th year that I've been in involved in this. It's the largest one day food drive in Oregon. Again this year I'm in charge of the Multnomah Village Post Office and will be leading a group of 40 volunteers. While the letter carriers pick up the donated food on their routes it's up to the volunteers to take it from the vehicles, sort it, pack it and load it to be shipped back to the Oregon Food Bank.

Please, even if it's just a couple of cans please donate. It's a great cause!

Also I am authorized to sign any Community Service forms for high school, college and court ordered if you wish to volunteer and receive credit for the hours worked.

    Thanks for the heads up
I will be out all day but will put this on grocery list.
Usually concentrate on protein foods, beans, soups, peanut butter, tuna. Other suggestions?

We do this each year too. We are very lucky in that we have outstanding carriers. VERY professional and friendly.

    Something to think about....
We plan yard work in front, on the day of pickup. That way we can hand the stuff to the carrier, so they don't have to get out of the truck. May not seem like much, but they really seem to appreciate it. Justa thought....

This will be my 12th year running a team of volunteers and overseeing the collection and processing of the food donations at the Multnomah Village Post Office. Every year we get 40,000+lbs of food.

This will be the year I reach 500,000 lbs. The Oregon Food Bank says 1 lb feeds 1 person 1 meal.

So I will have directly helped to feed 500,000 people or 1 person 500,000 times.

Well, that one person would have to live to be around 465 years old, to eat it all..... Lol

It's awesome you spend the time on it. Really awesome!
