Heavyweight Monte Barrett (35-9-2, 20 KO’s) wants to take advantage of his recent 12 round decision win over David Tua two weeks ago by taking on cruiserweight Shane Cameron (27-2, 21 KO’s) next.

Barrett has reportedly offered to fight the 33-year-old Cameron, who recently captured the Commonwealth cruiserweight title last July with a 12th round KO of Dominic Vea. Why Barrett is targeting a crusierweight instead of a heavyweight is unknown, because Barrett has fought his entire 15-year pro career as a heavyweight.

Cameron doesn’t have the chin to compete with decent heavyweights like Barret. Two years ago Cameron was easily beaten by Tua in a 2nd round knockout loss in October 2009. That defeat showed that Cameron doesn’t have the chin to compete against the big punchers in the heavyweight division. In 2020, Cameron moved down to the cruiserweight division and has done well thus far at the domestic level.
