Catch this: The suddenly wheeling-and-dealing 49ers addressed yet another problem area today by signing free-agent wide receiver Braylon Edwards. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the one-year, $3.5 million deal. The 6-foot-3, 214-pound Edwards, 28, will fill the temporary hole left by the absence of Michael Crabtree. Edwards figures to start alongside Crabtree once the third-year wide receiver returns from a foot injury, which is expected to sideline him throughout training camp. Edwards (6-3, 214) had 53 catches for 904 yards and seven touchdowns last year in his best season since 2007 when he set Cleveland's franchise records for yards (1,289) and touchdowns (16). Edwards led the NFL in drops in 2008 with 16 and was traded from the Browns to the Jets during the 2009 season.
