WTF I turn on the olympics tonight, and the guide tells me that the basketball game is going to be one of the events shown. What do they show me? the 50k walk! Why is this sport in the olympics? Can we get rid of it? This sport might as well be in the Special Olympics, and probably is. This is worse than watching any other sport that I have ever hated, and that includes table tennis or equestrian. Where is basketball? Wrestling? Anything, but this boring crap. I can't believe it. They are showing us a bunch of guys walking...FOR HOURS on end! If I wanted to watch people walk, I would go stand outside on a corner or something. What's next? 100 yard potato sack race? The egg toss?
hah are you watching it on USA now, too? What's even better is that I just saw a guy drop out of the race because he couldn't handle it, and the announcers were hamming it up: "what a heartbreak, to make it this far and dedicate yourself like this!"
I haven't read any basketball results yet, I don't want to spoil anything. I am leaving this crap on tv in hopes that they are going to show the game afterward. Let me know if they have already shown the game tonight, and you will have saved me much wasted tv time.
They refuse to bend their legs. They look like they are trying to run to the crapper, but are clenching their asses shut so as to not shart their pants before they get there.
It's not easy, and it is unfair to denigrate athletes because they don't perform a "traditional" sport. That said, there was a great episode of "Malcolm in the Middle" about race-walking.
Could you walk 50Km in under 4 hours? Didn't think so. I agree it isn't as prestidge a sport like some of the Track and Field but it still takes years of Preparation and hard work. You guys seem to have Crap tv service over in the USA. In Britain we have a fully interactive list were all we have to do is press a red button and it comes up with about 5 options. So i watched the B'ball
LOL Can you balance 10 teacups on your head for 5 minutes? That takes years of preparation and dedication, but who the hell cares! The walk event is pure crap filler, just like the air rifle competition, table tennis, and any of the other dipshit sports that they declare to be worthy of olympic competition.
I have to agree, these 50 K walk events are also embarrassing to me, aside from being a filler event.
OK, What i am about to say does not reflect my opinions. It's just an argument that someone might say. Firstly, Whoever said Table tennis is a filler event is a little dim, It's the national sport of China, The worlds biggest country, whats to say that basketball or baseball isn't a stupid sport? It's a sport mainly played in America with very little countries partaking in them seriously. Also balancing teacups on your head or whatever isn't a sport . But walking for 50km is bloody hard. I wouldn't like to do it in the conditions they went through. Are you just pissed because you didn't see the B'ball game? Because I must admit thats a little stupid of the broadcaster.
How is Basketball not an international sport? It is loved all around the world, the Olympics are a great example. Let's pretend I agree with you (and I absolutely do not agree), my previous post was more about the embarrassing way those people sway their hips in the 50 K walk event. It looks awful.
like i said the comments i said were not my opinion. But Basketball isn't as International as Football (Soccer) or indeed Table Tennis. I must agree they look stupid though.
Hey now let's leave Ping Pong alone! My country is famous for that sport and curling....come on, that can get intense when they get closer to the bulls-eye
You also said very few countries partake in Basketball seriously, not just that soccer is more popular. Pretty misleading imo (nothing personal man).
In my view, any event where the participants wear costumes and are awarded points subjectively based on "presentation" is not a sport. Race-Walking is six steps above that.
Figure Skating? anyway, Race-Walking seems pretty dumb as an olympic sport. Especially dumb for a TV station to show a 50K race-walk.
