I came up with the realistic scenario assuming Aldridge leaves and Matthews wants too much. I believe this scenario is completely realistic: We don't pick up team option on Kaman and sign Paul Millsap & DeMarre Carroll who are both Unrestricted Free Agents. We get defense & shooting from Carroll and a quality Power forward in Millsap who is consistent, has range and can shoot 3's just like Aldridge. Thoughts? 2015 Roster Starters PG: Damian Lillard SG: CJ McCollum SF: DeMarre Carroll PF: Paul Millsap C: Mason Plumlee/Meyers Leonard Reserves PG: Tim Frazier SG: Gerald Henderson SF: Pat Connaughton/Allan Crabbe PF: Noah Vonleh C: Meyers Leonard/ Mason Plumlee
Don't want to rain on your parade or anything, but if I'm Carroll I don't come to a LMA-less blazer team without receiving a max contract. Similar thinking on Millsap. Think younger...
I'm with you! Also, if Aldridge bolts, I would do whatever I can to make room for next summer. Better players available, plus we would most likely get a nice draft pick from tanking.
Let me get something off my chest. People who post a lot recently seem to not understand that.... Kaman is one of our most valuable trade assets. If a team is in the Luxury Tax and wants to get out of it, they want Kaman - why? Because they can trade for Kaman and dump most of his salary for IMMEDIATE tax savings of about $3.5 mil - He makes around $5 mil and only $1 mil is guaranteed (approximate numbers). If we absolutely need the savings ourselves we can do as the OP suggests and just dump him. Either way, he's gone as we have just traded for his replacement. If we "go young" Kaman's contract could totally be used to get a reasonable player. Olshey got RoLo and Robinson with less.
Absolutely will not happen. If PA has even the vaguest whiff of a tank, Olshey will be fired. Olshey knows this.
Although, he's a perfect player for teams that want to dump, like Hibbert for example. The $5 mil Kaman, plus 10 mil space will get him, giving a team like Indiana 24 mil free to use this summer.
The Bulls would jump on this for Taj Gibson..they have to pay Butler or match a max offer for him and want Gibson gone..
if Wes and LA leaves, we should do a sign and trade and see if we can get a lot draft picks. if LA signs with Houston, we should get terrence jones, sam dekker, kj mcdaniels, and patrick beverley. if Wes sign with let say nuggets, we should get emmanuel mudiay, 2016 1st round pick from knicks, and our 2016 1st round pick. use 45 millions on tobias harris, demarre carroll, and paul milsap. trade mudiay to net for rondae dame-patrick beverley-frazier demarre carroll-cj-kj tobias-sam dekker or rondae milsap-jones mason-meyers-kaman that team would probably even be better than last year team now and the future. our bench would become the best bench unit in nba history. our 2nd unit could still complete with a lot of starters in the nba. that team probably be the best scenario if wes, LA, and robin leaves
If we lose LA, I would look to get a quick commitment from Kevin Love. I would rather see the team stay competitive and improve on the go than rebuild. But...If I couldn't get a commitment from Love, I would then field the team very similarly to the way the Lakers fielded their team in the last two years with one year contracts and ok to decent talent. And then look to rebuild through next years draft and next years free agency.
Kevin Love is not walking through that door. Neither is Kawai Leonard. Neither is Marc Gasol, LeBron James, Draymon Green, Jimmy Butler, Dwayne Wade, Goran Dragic, or Khris Middleton. Neither is any Restricted FA.
If LA Leaves I'd like to see us add Monroe and Butler Not sure if GWH or Vonleh could be a starting 4 on a good team, but that isn't horrible
