Yeah, I know Simons is supposed to be our backup PG, but color me skeptical. And even if he is, every team needs a third-string PG. Currently Lillard is our only genuine PG. Suggestions for a cheap addition? The obvious suggestion is Frank Mason III, just cut loose by Sacramento. Or Quinn Cook, who is almost a carbon copy, just cut loose by Golden State. Rajon Rondo might be nice, but I have a feeling he and the Lakers have a deal to re-sign when the dust clears. Any others? Perhaps see what shakes out in Summer League. And I guess Wade Baldwin IV is somewhere out there...
I don't think they are going to sign another PG. Hezonja and CJ will be used there if needed. But they probably will leave one roster spot open going into the season just in-case it doesn't work.
I’m not opposed to adding a PG, but would rather it was a vet at the end of his career that would need playing time if Ant and Hez can handle it.
Quinn Cook certainly fits the template of what the Blazers have been doing, for the most part, this off-season: he's a PG with a career 42% mark from three. I'd be fine with him if he'd sign for a minimum deal. I'd be a little surprised if that's all he'll get and I'd be even more surprised if he signed with Portland because guard minutes behind Dame-CJ-Simons-Bazemore-Hood will be very limited I'd be fine with Rondo but I'm half-convinced he'll go to one of the LA teams I have no interest in Mason. He's tiny and a poor perimeter shooter. I could stand one of those flaws but not both of the remaining unsigned, I'd say Bayless, Shelvin Mack, maybe Devin Harris. I suppose Jeremy Lin is a possibility but I've always viewed him as a chucker who commits too many turnovers to be a good backup PG
Jeremy Lin has that Championship swag! Ugh no to Bayless - he was never, and will never be, a PG. Mack or Harris maybe, although Harris must be pretty ancient by now. Remember his one "star" season with the Nets under Scalipari was it?
Agree with Grant. I also think we're sleeping on Jackson (on Portland’s summer league team). I remember some buzz about him a few years back. He got injured & I haven't been following his career since
I'm all over the Quinn Cook train since the Warriors had to renounce him. He's a good shooter that played meaningful minutes in the NBA Finals. Good experience at the highest level.
