This is supposedly the target. Celtics fans are not happy with him. I have seen a lot of complaints about his handles. I have seen claims that he’s a bad distributor. That he has a low BBIQ. They complained about his defense. I honestly haven’t watched enough of him. Is he worth Ant and the 3rd pick?
I prefer Bridges, but I'd be happy with Brown too. Getting him would cement Dame and Grant's long-term commitment to the team. Having Dame, Sharpe, Brown and Grant as your first 4 starters would kickass. Surround those 4 with defensive role players like Bruce Brown and watch them go!
Link? I like the idea of Jaylen Brown but besides the money thing—which is massive given the new CBA rules—I’m not sure why Boston would dip out of contention with a young gun like Scoot/Miller unless the framework is a 3-way.
Shannon Sharpe tearing into him this morning. Saying he didn’t show up, has the handles of a middle schooler.
Jaylen somewhat controls what they do, he can just refuse to resign with teams he doesn’t wanna go to.
Me too, though I don't think that Bridges is necessarily a better player. Bridges would be cheaper to get imho. Throw into the mix that Brown, eligible for the supermax extension, would probably be getting more than double what Bridges would make over the same time period, and it seems like a no brainer.
Jaylen is probably the “better” player… but if we factor in the defensive side of the ball… I’m not so sure. That’s part of my issue with “all nba” and “all star” focus; it heavily caters to offensive players with the biggest box score numbers. Meanwhile you have players like Bridges who might give you 80% of the offense but also 180% more defensively than some other alternatives. And with our roster I just don’t see offense being that big of an issue. It’s always defense.
I just listened to 5 national sports talk shows during my 90 minutes commute this morning. . The majority think Boston will try to keep him because it is too hard to find good players. They don't think Boston cares about the money. But do Tatum and Brown complement each other? Steven A thinks they should trade him for Dame, but I still don't think he would re-sgn without Dame. I think the key for Brown is he is only 26. I don't think the Nets want to trade Bridges (why would they?) So who would you rather have Brown or Siakam? Which team wants the #3 most?
I don't want Siakam, he's too old and a poor fit with Grant. In general I've been a proponent of using the #3 and not trading for a veteran to win with Dame. Bridges and Brown are the two targets I would consider Ant and #3 though. Bridges is younger at 24, an iron man, and on a cheaper contract. Brown is the superior All NBA player. Brown is only 26. There is certainly a lot of risk with this move. #3 could ultimately be a superior player #3 is on a cheaper contract #3 is younger #3 allows the Blazers to additionally have Ant salary plus another player under the luxury tax vs Brown supermax Ant still has upside so the Blazers likely aren't selling at the peak of his value Brown has injury concerns Ultimately I probably pull the trigger on this deal as a few more veteran role players, Sharpe improving, good Blazers health, other contenders not having perfect seasons, all of that might give the Blazers a longshot chance to contend. It's still unlikely the Blazers win a title, but it's probably worth taking that shot. Things I like about this move; Break up the DameAnt duo which isn't good enough defensively Brown is a great wing defender that is a two way 20+ppg scorer. Brown can defend SG or SF, especially SF when paired with a tall SG such as Sharpe. Brown is a great frontcourt fit with Grant, allowing Grant to roam defensively while Brown locks up the #1 scorer. Brown is close with Dame so I'd view his flight risk in free agency to be very low just like Grant. Blazers aren't mortgaging their future draft equity if they need to eventually rebuild around Sharpe or even do another final trade for a 3rd all-star. Brown is likely to have a lot of value in a few years if this group is unsuccessful and the Blazers are better off rebuilding around Sharpe So I believe I pull the trigger on this trade I'd expect Ant to do awesome in Boston, probably top10 or even top5 in the league in scoring next year, and have some eventually question if Portland traded the wrong PG. Does Boston pull the trigger? If they want additional assets I'd probably walk away and tell Dame Brown they need to pressure the Celtics as was done in the Grant trade.
Brown? Disagree, he's great. If he didn't have to score 26ppg with Dame/Grant/Sharpe teammates it would likely be even better.
Cant give up more than ant and the three. No future firsts. but if they do it, i would. But they wont. they were in the finals last year. They were potentially a Tatum ankle tweak away from the finals this year. If i were them, id def run it back. I would not break that team up.
