<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Newcastle manager Glenn Roeder has revealed striker Shola Ameobi's hip injury could rule him out for the rest of the season. The 25-year-old has not played for two weeks because of the problem and now looks likely to undergo surgery. Roeder said: "We're close to booking an operation in America. When he has it, that's him out for the season." The manager also revealed that reserve keeper Tim Krul could face a spell on the sidelines with a knee injury. The 18-year-old, who made an impressive debut in the Uefa Cup against Palermo last week, aggravated the problem in the warm-up for the Magpies' Carling Cup win over Watford on Tuesday. The injuries to Ameobi and Krul compound the problems at the club, with Shay Given, Michael Owen, Kieron Dyer and Obafemi Martins among those in the treatment room.</div>How much bad luck can one club have...
This really isn't good news for us. Everyone slates old Ameobi, but he's our big striker, the guy who's physical and going to go for headers. The likes of Rossi and Martins don't play like that... Hopefully he'll make a quick recovery.
You've only got Rossi for another 6-7 weeks and I can't see United allowing Newcastle to extend the loan given the fact he doesn;t get the minutes he deserves.
