With some pretty decent players getting shit canned, Scola may be next, what teams are under the cap that we could be bidding against?

I can't believe Scola is getting amnestied! Now I regret us signing JJ Hickson. Will Scola go to the Heat or the Lakers?

I would hope we try and get Scola. I would even talk to Hou before they amnesty Scola and let them know we could give them a pick and take back Scola. I'm afraid if Scola makes it to amnesty someone like Mia, LA, Bos or the Nets etc will get him. He won't even consider us. IMO Scola is better then anybody we could get in FA this year or next.

They have to be over the cap, right?

I wouldn't mind Scola or Brand on the cheap. Can't have enough bigs. I know the Mavs will bid for these guys I just don't know what other teams are under the cap and are eligible to bid on amnestied players.

I'm pretty sure (though I'll check) that with Amnesties, not only does the player not have any say in where he goes, but also the only bidders can be those teams below the cap, and then it goes to FA.

    Edit:

amnesty bidding doesn't work like that.

OK thanks for the info. I guess then we would be in a decent shape to bid on Scola when/if he is amnesty. I still wouldn't mind us talking to Hou first to make sure we get him because I think almost all teams with cap space would bid on Scola and run up the amount.

From what I understand it's a one-time blind bid. So it's not like the Blazers say "5M!" and the Kings say "6M!" and the Blazers say "ok, 7M!"

I just don't think that there are many teams with much cap space so we'd have as good a shot as anyone.

Trading for him puts us on the hook for his entire salary.

Charlotte, Cleveland, Dallas, Minnesota, New Orleans, Phoenix, Sacramento, Toronto, and Washington could all be bidders. I would expect some of these teams ro also be bidding on Brendan. Haywood. Ans Elton Brand.

Supposedly Dallas is more interested in Brand since he has an expiring contract. I think we'd have a real good shot at Scola. If we could get him for around half of his full contract he'd be a steal.

Sounds official now. We need to make a bid on Scola. Dallas will probably be out after going for Brand.

I just read on rotoworld the mavs are going to bid on both Brand and Scola (along with many other teams on Scola). I sure hope the Blazers are interested in Scola and at least make a bid.

Not sure when but Scola isn't going to be amnestied until tomorrow. So, the bidding can't start before then.

I think it is a one week period for bids to be in and finalized.

Not sure it will make a difference, but I assume the Blazers will not tip their hand if they are interested in Scola, otherwise I would assume Minny would hurry on the offer sheet. Or maybe Minny decides to go that route as well and forget about Batum. They did say the want a big.
