By early afternoon on pole day Saturday, Tom Anderson had come to the realization it was time to forget about chasing the pole and focus on getting as many of Andretti Autosport's five cars into the Indianapolis 500 field as possible.

Anderson, the team's senior vice president of operations, came to that conclusion shortly after Tony Kanaan spun exiting turn one and smacked the wall in turn two on his first qualifying lap.
